It was our first visit to Spain and we just wanted a quiet relaxing holiday. We chose Granada as we wanted to visit the historical sights. Having looked into many hotels at various costs our main priority was that it had to be very central within walking distance to sights and restaurants.
We selected the Melia Granada as there was a promotion going on and we grabbed it at only €40 per night for a twin room. Our 3 night stay proved that it was the right choice being a city hotel within easy reach of everything, shops, restaurants and sights. It was easy to get to- we were pleasantly surprised to discover how simple it was to get the coach with pre- allocated seats, from Malaga to Granada and then a short taxi ride from the bus station to the hotel.
Checking in was simple- we were given a room, unfortunately with no view but the next day they changed our room to one with a distant view of the Alhambra. The room was large with pleasing décor.ng. It looked spotless and the added bonus was that I could use my laptop with free internet connection. The bathroom was well stocked with all the usual toiletries, large luxurious white towels which were changed daily ( with the sheets with daily room clean) and a bath and power shower that worked wonders at the end of the day. There was the usual little fridge stocked with drinks and a safe for your valuables.
We missed our usual cuppas and as the room did not have coffee making facilities, we relied on the quick room service for pots of tea and coffee. A round of delicious cured ham on toast was one of our favourite snacks. We did not have breakfast in the hotel. Instead we wandered around the town and stopped at different cafes where we could have toast and coffee in the open, watching the world go by slowly. I noticed most Spanish having toast and jam for breakfast, we tried the toasted muffins and croissant and they were lovely.
We found the hotel reception excellent and Miguel, who spoke perfect English , was always at hand to answer our questions and helped to make our stay a pleasant one. We found the bar /coffee lounge very comfortable and we made full use of this for the refreshing drink after our day out visiting the sights. The hotel was within walking distance to all the restaurants and you can find a very good selection, including lots of street cafes. The Spanish tend to eat late so you do have to scout around if you want to dine early. It was a short walk to the start of the rather steep climb to the majestic Alhambra, a sight not to be missed. There is also a bus service if you prefer not to take the uphill walk.
Although the hotel is part of a hotel chain, the excellent service made me feel very pampered indeed and I would most defintely go back again as I loved Granada!
