A standard double en-suite room for two adults costs £89.00
A superior double en-suite room for two adults costs £93.00
Both prices quoted do not include breakfast.
Christos and I paid £49.00 each for a standard double en-suite room (which included breakfast) - I found this special offer available from: www.superbreak.com
- it's always well worth shopping around!

@@@@@@@@@@@ My personal thoughts: @@@@@@@@@@@
The main reason I selected this hotel was for its central location. It also looked nice and the special offer of staying at a 4 star hotel for practically half the usual price had to be investigated.
~~~~~~~~~~~~ Was it worth it? ~~~~~~~~~~~~
On arrival, the lobby was an impressive show of marble floors and walls: all the décor was very continental. [One point worth mentioning: if you suffer from asthma or have an allergy to cigarette/cigar smoke, then this definitely is NOT the place for you - the lobby was thick with smoke].
It then transpired that most, if not all, of the staff either were Spanish or spoke Spanish as their second language. Not a problem, but it wasn't something I was expecting in Central London.
Checking in was similar to waiting in line at the Post Office for the next available clerk - but without the organisation that goes with it. The whole process took about 15-20 minutes. The receptionist seemed more concerned with chatting to colleagues than getting our room key. Hm…
The room was very drab. All tones of dark brown and beige - hardly letting in any natural light at all.
Whoever designed the room had a thing for mirrors: I've never seen so many reflective surfaces and mirrors in one room before! There were mirrors behind the bed's headboard as well as floor-to-ceiling mirrors on the cabinet doors beside the bed… Christos and I even joked the mirrors could be two-way spying devices!
The bed was HUGE (as in it could easily sleep three people)… but it wasn't a comfortable mattress… (probably because of excessive use… *ahem*)
The bathroom was a disappointment - all black marble (nice and jolly, eh?!), no toiletry storage space and only complimentary shower gel was provided: and this is meant to be four star quality?
For one night's stay the room served its purpose. I'm very glad we only paid £49.00 for it (but I felt that £49 should have been the grand total, rather than per person).
Breakfast served at "La Albufera Restaurant" was an experience.
We arrived around 8am and were spoken to in Spanish (!) automatically - luckily I figured out what the waitress said and replied in English, which is when it dawned on her that not all guests were Spanish speaking!
Anyway, she escorted us to a table and left us there.
Another waitress asked (in Spanish) if we'd like tea or coffee. We gave our requests (in English) and she left us to our own devices.
The room seated about 60 people and the layout was very odd: the buffet was at the far end of the room rather than being situated centrally within easy reach of all tables - so you had to traipse past several diners to get what you wanted.
Off we went to check out what was on offer:
There was a limited selection of fruit juice (the carrot juice and apple juice was fresh, but the orange juice was concentrated).
A choice of bread rolls, croissants, Danish pastries and pain au chocolat was displayed (but looked hard and unappetising).
There was a cold meat and cheese board, a salad bar (the lettuce had seen better days!) and a hot buffet of: runny scrambled eggs, over cooked fried eggs, bacon, par-boiled mushrooms, individual Spanish omelettes, sausages and hash browns.
As you can imagine, with such choices we didn't bother with much of it.
When booking through superbreak.com your reservation is paid for in full - which means that check-out is speedy (I've used this service before, so I know it's true). However, at this hotel we spent a further 20 minutes waiting to hand back our room key to the receptionist who eventually told us we were "free to go" - music to our ears!
It's safe to say, £30 Million refurbishment programme or not, there is no way I would book a room here again.
Advantages: Excellent decor, great Regents Park location - within 2 mins walk of 2 tube stations Disadvantages: 4 star decor not matched by corresponding room size
...at the 4 star Sol Melia White House in Regents Park, London after placing a winning bid of 74 pounds on the Priceline UK website (came to 91 pounds after taxes). Located in the deepest northern reaches of Priceline's Bloomsbury area of London it was further than we would have chosen from the center but this turned out not to be an issue. The Melia White House is easy to find and very well connected. it is located 2 minutes walk from Regents Park ... ...very good thing about the Melia White House is that it is marked on maps such as the London A to Z. Once you cross the major road from the tube stations it's very heard to miss, there are pedestrian crossings which make this easier. The lobby to the Melia White House instantly says 4 star. Although it has a low roof the decor and panelling is impressive. Checking in you suddenly realize that this hotel has teleported in from Madrid. The entire check ...
Advantages: Good value, immaculate, 4 Star Disadvantages: Language problems
I stayed at the Melia White House hotel in June 2008, on my first trip to London. Finding our way from Heathrow T5 to the hotel, negotiating the underground, was surprisingly easy, as the hotel is situated within 5 minutes walk of Great Portland St underground station, just outside leafy Regents Park. Warren St and Regents Park underground stations are also within 10 minutes walk in either direction.
The hotel may not look a lot from the exterior, ... ...White House hotel is a Melia brand hotel, a brand you are probably familar with if you've ever been to Spain, being part of Sol Melia. A drawback to the hotel was that, as a Spanish hotel, all the staff were Spanish, and while in general, the staff spoke good English, there were some language problems, especially over the telephone. However these were all easily rectified, but if you do stay at this hotel, if you need anything, I would go straight ...
Advantages: Good value for money Disadvantages: You speakee Engleeshhh?
Having read the inimitable Tiger Eyes’ wonderful review but negative experience of the White House Hotel it was with apprehension that I “looked forward” to staying there on an unavoidable pre-booked long weekend.
To make matters worse I arrived at the hotel at around 2.00 a.m. after a delayed flight. The reception area was very large, if a bit confusing for a befuddled mind…. Spreads out in a lot of directions and lots of ... ...looked a bit serious but my first pleasant surprise was to receive a complimentary upgrade to a large business-style room. It helped to create a good first impression! The room itself was large and nicely decorated. Very important to me, it had tea and coffee-making facilities. The television and air-conditioning were good. Some of the fixtures in the bathroom had not been changed in the refurbishment I suspected and the showers may cause problems ...
...and i decided on the melia white house as i thought it looked nice and was in a medium price range. The hotel is conveniently located as it is only about 3-5 minutes walk from the great portland street tube station which means that it is easy to get to other parts of london from the hotel. Also it is not far from regents park and london zoo is a 30 minute walk. We also walked to the camden market as it was only about 10-15 minutes walk from london ... ...get to from heathrow airport as you can take the tube and you 0only have to make one change of tube line. When we arrived at the hotel it looked exactly like it did on the website with the reception area looking grand and having marble counters. Check in was done quick and efficiently although i did have a slight problem understanding the member of staff as he was not english and sounded like he was french but he did speak good english. We then went ...
Advantages: luxurious, clean, bright Disadvantages: expensive meals, small room
I stayed here for two nights over a weekend spent visiting friends who live in north london.
We booked through lastminute.com, and like other reviewers, got an excellent deal of £89 per night B&B.
We arrived via tube and found the hotel easily a short walk away. I was really pleased walking into the lobby. It was clean, bright, fresh flowers everywhere - i thought it was beautiful However, having read another reviewer's comments on arriving after ... ...space, i can understand what they meant. I thought it was fantastic, though, arriving with plenty of time to admire the space.
The receptionist was very formal, but efficient. There was no banter or smiles!
The lifts themselves are an experience, and my boyfriend loved them - basically you put your floor number onto a dial which is in front of the lift, the lift arrives and takes you to your destination. I am sure kids and gadget-loving people ...
