Getting Around the Capital:
I must say this is another aspect of the journey which really made me feel more warmth towards the city. The other places I had visited were always to busy, the trains were unreliable and we could never now how to get from one place to the next. However, DC in my opinion has one of the best transportation services available and why wouldn't it; it's the capital after all.
The Washington Metro, which is London's equivalent to the underground runs all around the capital, taking you literally outside the main tourist attractions. We found the service to be very quick...

Advantages: good location, good transport connections. Disadvantages: irish "pub" restuarant, a bit noisey
...that have a tick list , and Washington is that kind of city.
The flavour of a City or area is what we look for, and to be honest Washington was just a stageing post for us on the route across the US.

Conclusion
---------------
The Phoenix Park is a good 3 star hotel. Well located, with staff who try that little bit harder.
They don't do themselves any favours with the out of date website, and the Irish Pub theme as the only method of dining must put off alot of people.
But if you want a comfortable, friendly hotel, near the major attractions of Washington this could be for you.

Advantages: fun, cheap, central location Disadvantages: none.
...sinatra. If you want to experience traditional american dining, go to Ollies. Try the lemonade! It's amazing. You can even get a chilli burger (yum)
Ollies is on the same block as the hotel and is like just next door to it.
There is a restaurant called "Harrys" which is a freindly pub/restaurant which i did not go to, however I know of some people who did and they said that the food was amazing. It's a little expensive, but apparently worth it and they do meals like steak, platters, fish and salad.
Area
you could seriously not be in a better place in Washington. Firstly, it is situated just three miles from a national airport, according to the website, but I didn't see or hear any planes. The hotel is in a very central place. It is in the very centre of WashingtonDC's most popular area for tourists. You can walk to the whitehouse...

Just got back from a lovely weekend in London and stayed at the the Washington Hotel in Mayfair. Do I reccommend this hotel - well it is good value. I booked direct from their website and it cost £89 plus VAT including full breakfast for two. This is for more
