This museum emphasizes on d-day history or second world war. It reflects the memorable events that took place in Caen and the region during ... ...all the expositions are explained in French and english. So knowledge of french language is not necessary.

This museum emphasizes on d-day history or second world war. It reflects the memorable events that took place in Caen and the region during the summer of 1944. As with all other tourist attractions, all the expositions are explained in French and english. So knowledge of french language is not necessary.
In the beginning, there is little about the history of Caen and how did the war start, then what happened during the war; from point of view of civilians and soldiers. There are also copies of letters sent from soldiers to their homes. You have to READ them, they give alot of information about the war. A quote from one of the letter sent by American soldier to his wife " ...... It seems more like bloody murdrer every day. We are killing french civilians while liberatng them........."
The next room consists of maps which shows the attacks by both parties and layout of ground. Then there are small films which confront you with the past reality.
Then we leave the first section and enters into the second section, which mainly includes 2 long films regarding the landings and second about the violence that has occurred all over the world in the past.
At the beginning or end of your tour, you may buy souvenirs or even books regarding all the happening of the war. The staff is helpful.
