Memphis: Birth Place of Elvis & Home of the Blues

Advantages: Elvis!!!! Really Cheap Also
Disadvantages: Hot, dusty and alot of flies

...help book a trip to Memphis and anything Elvis related, you can also purchase tickets for Gracelands on here as well.

On the third night we stayed in one of the four themed rooms, the "Graceland" suite, this was a gift for my dad, and we only stayed in here for one night, retaining our other rooms. This cost around $300.00, and was superb. You can hire any of the rooms out for one night during your stay, including the Hollywood ...
...of Elvis's favourite dishes, full Memphis style. The breakfast gathering was in 'The Jungle Room', near the pool area, containing a bar, dining area and a huge cinema screen to watch Elvis concerts and movies. Although there was no cooked items at the breakfast (which to be honest was really a blessing after eating fried food all week), there was a marvellous range of muffins, bagels (three types), crispy crème donuts (yes, you read correctly, donuts ... more

Graceland, the best part of Memphis.

Advantages: For an Elvis fan, it is the ultimate experience.
Disadvantages: It is not in the city.

...buying tickets individually. Memphis is a really large city and there are many wonderful hotels, shops, departmental stores, restaurants, and anything your heart desires. We did all the tourist things. The Peabody Hotel, Sun Records, the museum where Elvis has his first recording equipment. We did Beale Street in the evening. Went into B.B. King's place. We even saw the motel where Martin Luther King Junior was shot. Yes, there is so much to do ...

Rough but worth the hassle

Advantages: history and legends abound
Disadvantages: it's a bit shabby

Most people go to Memphis for one thing, and one thing only - Gracelands. Most people leave having had their dream fulfilled, but with one big question - why did the King choose to live there? If you wanted an answer to that question I suppose it's all about security and ties, but the fact remains that Memphis has remained in some sort of 70's timewarp ever since he died. For non-Elvis fans such as myself, a trip to Gracelands may not mean that ...
...definitely worth a visit to Memphis by itself. The other major attraction is Beale Street. In case you don't know, Beale Street is basically a long line of one blues club after the other. Even for non-blues fans, this is again worth a trip over on its own, as long as you don't necessarily expect 100% authentic blues all the time. Like everything else, Beale Street has been tourist-ified, and even BB King's Blues Bar had a band more interested in ...

Mempis, Tennessee

Advantages: Elvis overload, cheap and cheerful, music
Disadvantages: none

...raised to Elvis' music, visiting Memphis has always been a dream of mine. My husband and I visited in October 2007. Finding a budget hotel is quite easy if you are happy to catch a bus, taxi or walk in to the entertainment hub of Mempis' Beale St. We stayed at the Red Roof Inn on Camilla St and Union Ave. Do not be fooled by the address. Although Union Ave does join the main streets in Memphis, the Red Roof is about 1.5 miles up Union Avenue, a ...

The Peabody, Home of the Peabody Ducks

Advantages: Lovely hotel, with quality shops
Disadvantages: None that I can think of

...in the heart of downtown Memphis is the home of the famous Peabody Ducks. This grand hotel, built in 1869 in the Italian Renaissance Revival tradition, boasts of "southern hospitality and delta style". The famous Peabody Ducks, one mallard and four hens, are housed in the "Duck Palace", a penthouse pond on the roof of the hotel. Each day at eleven in the morning, a red carpet is unrolled as the ducks process from their penthouse, down the elevator, ...
...gimmick, however, and everyone in Memphis will ask you, "Have you seen the ducks?". I will also add that there was a pronounced atmosphere of southern hospitality everywhere you went in the building. People were very friendly in all the shops and boutiques surrounding the lobby. The Peabody is located at 149 Union Avenue, just a few blocks from the famous Beale Street. Viewing the ducks is free. Y'all come back now, ya hear! ...

Advantages: great for elvis fans
Disadvantages: nothing much else to do

...justify staying all day. memphis zoo is also a must see attraction. it was very enjoyable. admission cost around $12 per person. luckily we were blessed with gorgeous weather so we could see all the animals which was lovely. animals included elephants, tigers, flamingos and many more exotic creatures. also features several gift shops which were all air conditioned which was lovely after being out in the heat. again not the sort of place you could ...
...if you enjoy shopping then memphis is the place. while we were there we visited to 3 shopping malls. each were around 3 stories high and boasted shops full of designer labels. ( again take plenty of money) TRAVELLING the best way to travel around memphis is by taxi. there are always taxis around hotels etc and are always willing to take you where you want to go. we also went on a ferry trip down the mississippi river which is a great way to see ...

Quack quack - ducks in the fountain - The Peabody Hotel

Advantages: Free attraction for all the family
Disadvantages: A long way from UK

The Peabody hotel is found at 149 Union Ave, Memphis, Tennessee (TN 38103) in the USA which is right in the heart of Memphis just a short walk from the Gibson factory, Beale street and the famous , ? Rendezvous? rib restaurant where Elvis had ribs sent from to where ever he was in the USA. Those of you who have read my previous reviews will know that we went to the USA in May 2009 with my daughter and her partner and we visited Memphis mainly to see Graceland but I was also very keen to see the famous Peabody ducks if we had time. If you have missed hearing about this quirky attraction then I urge you to visit YouTube and search for the Peabody ducks and you will see what I mean. My review is specifically about this attraction at the hotel as we did not stay at the hotel. We did however sample quite a few drinks whilst waiting ...

Heartbreak Hotel , stay in downtown Memphis instead

Advantages: walking distance to Graceland, set back off noisy rd,free airport shuttle
Disadvantages: basic, shabby, breakfast very poor quality, noisy corridors, tiny bar area

We went in April 2009,stayed 3 nights, it looks fab on website, but it`s not.looks like a shopping mall, bedroom was truly grotty, stunk of cigars (we asked for non-smoking room) so got the maid to change the sofabed bedding for our daughter. windows wont open due to aircon, very stuffy. Breakfast very rushed, poor quality, miserable staff on reception, bar area tiny.No atmosphere at night, area is a bit scary outside at night. We used the free pink cadillac from hotel to Marlowes restaurant 1 night, excellent,no lunch or evening meals served at this hotel. Wish we had booked a hotel in downtown Memphis & visited Graceland area in hire car...would strongly recommend that option,Elvis presley Boulevarde is dead at night, apart from a few fastfood joints. My husband set off walking at night on his own to find a liquor store(not a good idea ...

Review of Elvis Presley's HeartBreak Hotel, Memphis

I've been to Graceland

Advantages: See where Elvis lived and lots of Elvis memorabilia
Disadvantages: souvenirs too expensive and food on site pricey too

WHERE IS IT: Graceland is on Elvis Presley Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee, USA We were staying in Gatlinburg which was about 7 hours drive from Memphis but I'm glad we made the effort to go to visit this famous home of Elvis. THE PACKAGE: This is the package we booked on the website: ? One night deluxe accommodations for two people at Elvis Presley?s Heartbreak Hotel with free continental breakfast ? Two reservations for the Graceland Platinum Tour, which includes an audio-guided tour of Graceland Mansion and grounds, and a self-guided tour of Elvis's two custom airplanes, Elvis's Automobile Museum, Private Presley and the Sincerely Elvis Museum. We paid about $160 per couple and shared a 2 double bedded room in the hotel so I think it was actually quite good value. I looked at other hotels in the area and they might have been a bit ...
