The island is the furthest east of the Balearics - just 48 kilometres long and 20 kilometres at its widest point. It's just under two and a half hours flying time from London and can also be reached by ferry from Barcelona, Valencia and Mallorca. The best way to appreciate the island is to hire a car and explore the wonderful beaches, the verdant pastures of the interior, the delightful fishing villages and historic towns. that is what i did with ... ...lot of places in menorca. Menorca, a family paradise?
Advantages: Scenic, quiet family orientated beaches, short travel time. Disadvantages: Expensive, maybe too quiet for some.
...with a short flight time. Menorca (or Minorca) fit the bill. It was described in the brochures as a quiet island with lovely beaches, and was a 2 hour flight from the UK. We decided to book a package holiday so that we had someone to hold responsible if something went wrong with any aspect of it. We booked through First Choice and paid £1450 for a weeks self catering for 2 adults and 4 children the 2nd week of July. We booked a 2 bed apartment. THE ... ...the highest point in Menorca offering wonderful views of the island. There is a very large statue of Jesus and a shop and cafe run by the nuns. It is a strenuos drive up to the top but worth it.
FIRST CHOICE
We found them a good company to book with. We didn't prebook seats but arrived 3 hours before the flight so get seated together. On the way back we paid £12 to sit together. The rep in resort was useful and avaliable when needed and the excursions ...

Cala N Bosch- Menorca
Advantages: Great sights, lovely weather, fantastic location Disadvantages: None
...friendly staff.
Environment:
Menorca is noted for its cleanliness and being environmentally friendly. This is obvious as you walk round, seeing the lush greenery, the clean streets and the sparkling blue sea's. Loads of animals around, cows, sheep, pigs, horses, birds and fishes.
Weather:
We arrived around 10am, and the weather was looking ok, but not overly warm, and a bit grey. Obviousley we were a bit worried as we were wanting to escape this ... ...for the next week the weather was glorious, non stop sunshine, great for tanning!
Cala N Bosch:
Lovely seaside town, with a picturesque, quaint little harbour. We arrived a few days before the bank holidaqy, and the town was reasonably quiet. The majority of restaurants, shops and bars were open, and also an arcade. However from the bank holiday, it did get noticeabley busier as the week went on, with the remaining shops getting ready to open up, ...

Cala Galdana, Menorca
Advantages: Peace and quiet. No Lager Louts! Disadvantages: people with severe mobility problems may find the hills of the resort difficult.
We travelled to Menorca Sept 2005 where we had booked a four bedroomed villa called Springhill through a company called Bartle Holidays. There is also a small two bedroomed property called The Cottage which is a sort of annexe which can either be booked alone or for a lager party! The Villa and cottage were very comfortable. Springhill has it's own private swimming pool and a sea view. The beach and resort centre of Cala Galdana is only a short walk ... ...We found all of Menorca a very pretty island with friendly people, warm sunshine and a relaxing pace of life - it also boasts over a hundred beaches which for the size of the island is pretty amazing!. Cala Galdana is known as the "Queen of the Calas" and is very deserving of the name! We were so impressed we have booked to go again this year!! ...

Beautiful Menorca
Advantages: Unspoilt beautiful Island Disadvantages: weather can be unpredictable out of season
Until you visit Menorca for the first time, it is hard to believe that a place still exists so close to the UK that it still remarkably unspoilt. The Island is only about 30 miles from end to end but boasts more than 130 bays. rumour has it that if you include all little bays and coves around the Island - some only accessible by boat there would be a different one for each day of the year!
Although a small Island there are many variations in the ... ...write pages and pages about Menorca - but in order to appreciate it you just have to visit.
I would say that the Island has something for everyone, perhaps with the exception of the 18-25 age groups if they are looking for a place with all night entertainment - this is not the place for them! To really get a feel for the place it is better to hire a car, even if just for part of your stay. Although the buses are good you cannot really explore the ...
