Hi there!

I have just returned back today from Menorca, and had such a fantastic time, I wanted to share my experience in case anyone is looking for a brilliant holiday in the near future.

Myself and my partner arrived in Mahon (the recently made capital of Menorca) on 4th May 2007. We were travelling with Thomas Cook, and had booked a week in the Valentin Star Hotel (4*) located in Cala N Bosch on the South west Coast of Menorca. We had booked half board, which also included in flight meals. Booking about 6 months in advance, and booking online via the internet, the entire package for 2 of us cost the bargain price of under £500! I believe we saved about £400 by booking online. Transfers were also included, and all in all, the service was quick, efficient, and with friendly staff.

Environment:

Menorca is noted for its cleanliness and being environmentally friendly. This is obvious as you walk round, seeing the lush greenery, the clean streets and the sparkling blue sea's. Loads of animals around, cows, sheep, pigs, horses, birds and fishes.

Weather:

We arrived around 10am, and the weather was looking ok, but not overly warm, and a bit grey. Obviousley we were a bit worried as we were wanting to escape this weather! However, after about 30 minutes, the rain stopped, and for the next week the weather was glorious, non stop sunshine, great for tanning!

Cala N Bosch:

Lovely seaside town, with a picturesque, quaint little harbour. We arrived a few days before the bank holidaqy, and the town was reasonably quiet. The majority of restaurants, shops and bars were open, and also an arcade. However from the bank holiday, it did get noticeabley busier as the week went on, with the remaining shops getting ready to open up, and also more activities such as boat hire and water sports, a small train and horse and cart rides.

There are plenty of restaurants to choose from, such as the tapas bars (serving mainly small snacks and drinks), chinese restaurants, italian, spanish, and then of course plenty of Engliesh and Irish bars and eateries. The restaurant that was a particular favourate of our was 'Avanti', situated next to the harbour on the right hand side.

Plenty of places to walk, whether you want to walk to the nearby village of San Xrogiuer; around the craggy coastline watching the boats and feeding the seagulls; or around the harbour adminiring the fabulous boats and looking at the fish, eels and ducks. Cala N Bosch beach is fairly small, however beautiful and clean.

Lots of live music in the evenings at the bars and hotels. Easy transport, buses every 15 minutes, taxis, mini train and horse and cart in evenings.

Valentin Star Hotel (4*):

Wonderful hotel. We were met by a porter on arrival who took or bags to our room. The room was spotlessly clean, large and with a patio straight out onto the bool area. This was ideal, as it was still fairly private. Although I'm sure all the rooms were great, I would recommend requesting a room onto the pool, as some had balconies facing out onto the main road, or above the outside bar area, which could get rather noisy.

Rooms are cleaned daily, including fresh towels every day in the bathroom. The bathrooms are alkso as impressive, with toilet, sink, bidet, bath with shower, hairdryer and inbuilt radio. Bedroom has TV (although the only English channels were Sky News, Euro Sport and CNBC), air conditioning and fan.

Staff were lovely and helpful. Food also freshly cooked, and magnificent selections both for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast has foods such as fruits, cereal, hot breakfast, and continental. Dinner includes choices such as salads, pastas, meat, fish and veg.

In the daytime there is not a lot going on, but there is internet access in the bar and also a TV usually with Eurosport on, and a wonderful swimming pool, although this is exceptionally cold!! In the evening most nights there is live music, usually tribute bands, playing both in the inside bar, and also the outside bar which is open to the public, overlooking the harbour.

Prices:

Drinks and food are neither cheap or expensive, and do not tend to vary whether you are in the hotel or in a restaurant. Soft drinks are around 2 euros. Spirits are about 4 euros, and coktails between 5 and 7 euros (Try the Zombie!). Snacks such as spanish omlettes, are around 5 euros. I would advise not to have any cold sanwiches, as the bread tends to be very dry. Main courses vary between 5 - 8 euros for pizzas, 9 - 12 euros for bigger meals such as fish and meat.

Overall:

A fantastic holiday I would most definately reccommend!!
