    Advantages Advantages An alternative view of Edinburgh, good guides, fun, interesting

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Could be a bit longer, not much to see on our tour

    While I am not a fan of guided tours, there are some places that cannot be visited unless you are part of an organised group. In Edinburgh I was interested in visiting the old vaults and the only way to do this was by taking a guided tour with Mercat Tours. Mercat Tours offer several tours that put the spotlight on different historical aspect of Edinburgh, mainly things with a sinister edge. It's easy to book a place on one of their tours.     While visiting my hometown of Edinburgh at the weekend, I had my friend visiting who had not been to Edinburgh before. While there are all of the usual bigger attractions to see such as Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace, the ghost tours are definitely a must do thing as they are sightseeing with a difference. The Mercat Tours have been going on for a good 20 or so years now with the underground vaults having only been on show for about 10 plus years. There are two different types of tours which can be taken, there is the Ghost and Ghouls tour or there is the Gallows to Graveyard tour. The ... more
