rates. This is the place to be in Hobart, with its central location and modern facilities. The popular Embers Bar and Grill, located on ground floor of the hotel, has an international menu specialising in fresh Tasmanian produce and an extensive wine selection. Featuring a wood-fired oven and rotisserie, and a contemporary decor, Embers is ideal for that corporate dinner, unwinding over a drink at the end of the day, or just a quick bite.
Advantages: Reasonable cost, attractive architecture Disadvantages: Service could have been better
...Bergen Op Zoom is a small town not far from Rotterdam. I visited it recently whilst doing business in the nearby petrochemical area. The town is quaintly Dutch with lots of nice bars and restaurants.
I stopped at The Hotel de Draak operated under the Mercure name. Like the town the hotel is old and it occupies a good position in the corner of the main square the Grote Markt. Parking is available either outside the hotel in the square of for Nfl 14.50 a night they have a private secure parking area nearby. The hotel has only 34 rooms but they are spread on 6 floors. There is a lift which is also very old but seemed up to the job each time I used it. The building itself is a typical town centre town house much loved and seen in the Netherlands. It all seemed quaintly untouched by time with old beams and doors and chandeliers. Sadly some...

Advantages: Central and cheap Disadvantages: Worn around the edges
...There are not a lot of cheap accommodation options in Hobart, so the choice invariably comes down to availability rather than preference. I was in town for just 2 nights, and wanted somewhere central and clean, but as I'm travelling off and on for the next 4 months, I didn't want to blow my budget.
Central City Backpackers is not a misleading name as it is located in the centre of the city. It overlooks a shopping precinct at the front and a cathedral at the back, and is within easy walking distance of the main bus terminal (2 minutes), the main shopping area (2 minutes) and the harbour (10 minutes).
Getting there is easy as the airport shuttle bus drops off just around the corner. There are 2 entrances, one for daytime and a different one for at night that is kept secure by a keycode issued by reception on check in. Though...

Advantages: Very close to Tate Modern, and Southwark tube station Disadvantages: Located on the other side of the river from the likes of Oxford Street
...I stayed at the London Mercure London City last weekend as part of a birthday treat from my boyfriend (I believe he booked it as part of a deal with rail tickets/show tickets/hotel, so am unable to tell you how much the hotel costs separately!). We stayed there for one night (a Saturday) after spending the day shopping in Oxford Street and the evening watching Phantom of the Opera at the London Palladium.
We were able to check-in from 2 o'clock onwards, and we arrived at approximately 5pm. We were greeted at reception by a member of staff and a trainee, and were offered a smoking or non-smoking room. We opted for a non-smoking room and were given room 502 on the 5th floor.
Room 502 is just a few steps away from the lift, and is forwards facing so you can see straight out into Southwark Street. It is a two-person room with a decent...
