On my last trip to Budapest I was very lucky to choose a hotel within walking distance of the centre and quite a few of the main attractions. The Mercure Budapest was formerly known as The Taverna and is located about two minutes walk away from the bank of the River Danube. We arrived by taxi from the airport which is roughly about 17 kilometres and as I paid the taxi driver I remember thinking that I really liked the fact that the front entrance which is quite grand was on a main road with tourists milling around. I much prefer this than being stuck away down a dark alleyway.
I was impressed with the front entrance of the hotel with its glass windows shining through to the myriad of lights inside and beautifully manicured conifers sitting upright in purple pots with the Mercure sign embellished on the front. The last time I stayed in ...

If you decide to stay at The Welcome Plaza Hotel, or indeed any hotel in Pattaya for that matter, it is advisable to print off the address in thai from a website. The chances are that you will be landing at either the new airport or the older (but impressively) refurbished one in Bangkok. From the latter it is a two hour taxi ride to Pattaya. This includes two obligatory stops: one for the driver to refuel the car and another for him to suddenly dash off for a piss in a ditch. It seems to be a tradition, or just the effect I have on people. If you are really lucky like me, then there might be a third time; when you get to help him change a tyre while huge trucks thunder past within inches of your backside.. ....all because he didn't pull over to the side of the road when he noticed he had ...

I suppose there's not much point beating around the bush: when I think back to my stay at the HotelMercur in Arhus, it's difficult to find many positive things to say about it. It wasn't my first choice of hotel in the city, but as I had to book at fairly short notice, that didn't bother me unduly. Only when I arrived and told colleagues where I would be staying did their reaction trigger a faintly uneasy feeling: "You're at the Mercur? Oh. Hmm. Well, I suppose you can't change it now". That much was correct - it appears that the hotel capacity in Denmark's second city has not kept pace with the commercial developments, and there is quite a shortage of available beds.
Of course, this means that the hotels have no incentive to mount any sort of pricing war to take business from one another - there is no need to drop prices as high ...
