motorway from Arnhem to Den Haag and Rotterdam. This welcoming hotel has an excellent dining facility where guests can also have a nice drink or a cup of coffee.
Advantages: transport, language ease Disadvantages: the rain
...Utrecht was the first city I visited as a lone traveller from England. I was worried about many things; getting the transfers from the airport, finding the hotel and above all I spoke not a scrap of Dutch.
Stepping off the plane at Schipol - the airport in Amsterdam- I was greeted by easy to follow signs pointing me where I needed to be, to collect my luggage, then booths to buy train tickets, which I'd managed in under 2 minutes, and was quickly off on my way to get the train to Utrecht. Located right in the airport, the train station has ever so friendly staff that appear delighted to help you and will enter into a bit of friendly and polite banter with you too; so (after figuring out very quickly I was English) they helped me find the right train platform and off I went with a smile on my face.

Advantages: Reasonable cost, attractive architecture Disadvantages: Service could have been better
...Bergen Op Zoom is a small town not far from Rotterdam. I visited it recently whilst doing business in the nearby petrochemical area. The town is quaintly Dutch with lots of nice bars and restaurants.

It all seemed quaintly untouched by time with old beams and doors and chandeliers. Sadly some...

Advantages: Very close to Tate Modern, and Southwark tube station Disadvantages: Located on the other side of the river from the likes of Oxford Street
...I stayed at the London Mercure London City last weekend as part of a birthday treat from my boyfriend (I believe he booked it as part of a deal with rail tickets/show tickets/hotel, so am unable to tell you how much the hotel costs separately!). We stayed there for one night (a Saturday) after spending the day shopping in Oxford Street and the evening watching Phantom of the Opera at the London Palladium.
We were able to check-in from 2 o'clock onwards, and we arrived at approximately 5pm. We were greeted at reception by a member of staff and a trainee, and were offered a smoking or non-smoking room. We opted for a non-smoking room and were given room 502 on the 5th floor.
Room 502 is just a few steps away from the lift, and is forwards facing so you can see straight out into Southwark Street. It is a two-person room with a decent...
