We booked this hotel throuigh accorhotels.com and it certainly wasn't expensive for the class of hotel. We drove through France to Cologne and found the hotel easily, because it is on a main road. There is a public car park under the hotel which costs 10 euros per day or 1.50 euros per hour, so it could work out expensive if you took the car in and out. We found no reason to take the car anywhere, becauae verything we wanted was within a short walk. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who spoke extremely good english. She gave us the choice of a smoking or non smoking room, offered us a tourist map and asked if we needed any information about Cologne. The room was very nice, with air conditioning , internet connection, min bar, room service, television, a supply of shampoo etc, towels and a view over the outside bar area. There was a little packet of Haribo sweets on each of the twin beds, which was a nice little touch. Maid service was good and towels were changed every day. Initially when we arrived at the hotel we were a little concerned at the roadworks outside and thought they may be noisy, but I think the windows were double glazed and the room was very quiet. We did not eat at the hotel as we thought the breakfast were expensive at 14 euros per person per day, but the bar meals and evening meals seemed quite reasonable. However there are so many cafes, bistros and restaurants within a 10 minute walk, you are somewhat spoiled for choice. Bar prices are a little higher than in the outside bars, but certainly not extortionate and is open until 1 o'clock in the morning. This hotel is very well situated for Cologne, a 15 minute walk to the cathedral or the river rhine and a 5-10 minute walk to shops and bars. There is a cash machine literally 4 minutes from the hotel. We would definitely recommend this hotel, it was a good class (business class), well situated, quiet location, good value, friendly.
Addition - We stayed in this hotel again over the May Day Bank holiday 2007. We paid 266 euros for 4 nights (approximately Ł186). When we arrived late at night, we were told we were in a room on the 5th floor. To reach this we had to take the lift to the 4th floor and then take one flight of stairs. 'No lift to the 5th floor' we thought, not very good. However when we got to the room it was like a suite, it had a hallway with cupboard for coats and a large mirror, an alcobe with a dining table and 4 chairs and opposite that a cupboard that housed a double hob, kettle, cups and a supply of tea and coffee. There was a separate sitting area with sofa, coffee table and TV and a balcony off this. Just off the sitting area was the bedroom area. Our German friends thought it was excellent. The only criticism was there was no furniture on the balcony. Would definitely stay there again and next time will request a room on the 5th floor.
