If you are looking to stay in the centre of Marseille close to the marina and excellent fish restaurents for a cheap price then this is the place for you.
The hotel is located approx 20--25mins in a taxi away from Marseille Airport with a cost in the regionof 45 - 60 ~Euros (the maximum I have paid is 53 Euros, seems to be the same as anwhere in the UK, it is the luck of the draw which taxi driver you get.
The hotel is just arount the corner from the View Port, far enough away not to be disturbed in the evening but close enough to walk to plenty of restaurents. If you like fish then this is the place to go as there is a great number of fish restaurants.
The hotel is located directly next to a shipping center and there is direct access from the hotel lobby - you do not even had to go out into the street. On the far side of the shopping area you exit into the main shopping area in Marseille where this is a good choice of shops.
The main entrance is set slightly back from the road with a run in for taxis to stop at and a planted area direcly between the run in and the street.
The main receiption has plenty of seating and the receiption desk is manned 24/7. All staff at reception speak good English and you can easily make yourself understood no matter how strange you accent is. Note if you are paying in cash then an up front deposit is normally required which is more than the nightly room rate , or you can pay by credit card.
This hotel also offers conference facilities although I have never view these and the accomdation is from the 3rd floor to the 12th.
the rooms are what you expect for a hotel, bed, bathroom, dressing table with TV - note there are only 2 English channels which are BBC World and Sky News.
The bar in the hotel is located in the lobby and is pleasant with comfortable seats and service at your seat if you so wish and there is also a TV.
The restaurant is also located on the ground floor and is not very big, for breakfast there is a good selection of continental and also English available on order. There is also a good selectiong for evening meal available in the hotel restaurant.
There are 2 elevators in the hotel and having stayed in the Mercure on many occsaisions have never suffered with etiher elevator being out of order.
so to sum up, for a short stay in Marseille the Mercure is very suitable.
