Via del Corso runs from Piazza Venetia, below the Il Vittoriano monument in the center of Rome, all the way up to Piazza del Popolo in the north of the city. It's one of the biggest streets for shopping in Rome and is frequented by tourists and locals, looking for a variety of goods. There are no sites that would be of interest to a tourist on Via del Corso, but there are so many very nearby such as the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain and Forum Romanum. So if you're doing a lot of walking around the city, then you're bound to find yourself on this street at some point. It's certainly well worth a visit as it's an interesting street with a good variety of shops and a good atmosphere.

Advantages: cheaper than many in the area, clean, comfortable, easy access to sights Disadvantages: bathroom not great, no restaurant
road called Via Spallanzani, just off the Corso Buenos Aires - one of the city's many shopping areas. Although not as central as some hotel's you'll find, it's right by Lima underground station (linea 1 - the red line) which will take you to the cathedral and other sights in a matter of minutes.
The road itself is relatively quiet, and easy to get to from Milan's Central Station (it took us about 10 minutes to walk there). The area around Central Station is not the nicest (a bit of an understatement) but I am reliably informed by a friend who lives and works in Milan that Lima is perfectly safe - and, indeed, we did not feel unsafe at all when in the area, even late at night.
The hotel itself is very small (around 30 rooms) and part of a "terraced" block of buildings, but very easy to find thanks to the huge sign outside.

Advantages: Very close to Tate Modern, and Southwark tube station Disadvantages: Located on the other side of the river from the likes of Oxford Street
I stayed at the London Mercure London City last weekend as part of a birthday treat from my boyfriend (I believe he booked it as part of a deal with rail tickets/show tickets/hotel, so am unable to tell you how much the hotel costs separately!). We stayed there for one night (a Saturday) after spending the day shopping in Oxford Street and the evening watching Phantom of the Opera at the London Palladium.
We were able to check-in from 2 o'clock onwards, and we arrived at approximately 5pm. We were greeted at reception by a member of staff and a trainee, and were offered a smoking or non-smoking room. We opted for a non-smoking room and were given room 502 on the 5th floor.
Room 502 is just a few steps away from the lift, and is forwards facing so you can see straight out into Southwark Street. It is a two-person room with a decent ...
