On my recent trip to Paris I saw a lot of hotels - the first one was the Tour Eiffel Suffren. This hotel is a 4 star hotel and is part of the Mercure chain of hotels.
The hotel: The hotel is classed as a 4 star hotel but, is not a luxury style hotel compared to others of the same rating within Paris city centre. The hotel has plenty of facilities which I'll go through later and is quite large with 405 rooms.
Location: The hotel is one of the closest to the Eiffel Tower and from the front entrance there is a smashing view of the tower. Some of the rooms also have a view of the tower but unfortunately I was not lucky enough to have one of those ones! The hotel is located at 20 Rue Jean Rey and is actually located right next door to the Hilton Paris hotel. Officially in the 15th Arondissemont it is located on the left bank of the city centre.
First impression: I have to admit I was slightly disappointed when we pulled up at the hotel as I had already looked online and had kind of thought the hotel looked pretty good - however when we arrived the outside didn't look that amazing to be honest - obviously the angle the pictures that were online had been taken to display it at its best! However even though the exterior is very basic the lobby is better with nice lighting and is clean and modern. The reception is immediately to your left as you enter and is manned constantly by staff that are friendly and helpful. Overall the hotel makes a good first impression once you have entered the lobby.
The rooms: The rooms are reached by a set of lifts just to the side of the reception desk of which there are three. The rooms are of a decent size of which in ours there was two single beds. The room also had a chest on which there was a TV along with a mini bar and a desk where one of the room's two telephones was located. Next to the window there was a small table that had two complimentary bottles of water and selection of biscuits. The nice thing about the windows was that they opened fully which was great as the room seemed to get really warm in the evening! A unique concept about the room considering its average size was that the bathroom and the toilet were separate. The bathroom although small was adequate enough with a bath tub and shower and a sink unit with large mirror. There was also a wardrobe opposite the bathroom which also contained the safe. The decor of the room was simple with red carpet and cream walls. I liked that the hotel had a turndown service and they left a chocolate on the pillow! All together the hotel has 405 rooms of which 349 of them are non smoking. Nine of the rooms are adapted to disabled guests and they do allow pets too which you would have to ring the hotel to arrange beforehand.
Restaurant and bar: The hotel has a main bar that is located in the lobby where guests can get a variety of drinks - however drinks were not cheap at around 9 Euros for a pint of lager. The bar was never that busy so it didn't take long to get served and the barman was friendly enough! The restaurant to the hotel is located just off from the lobby and this is where breakfast is served in a buffet style in the morning. Then after breakfast has finished the restaurant is open for meals until 10.30pm - I didn't have anything other than breakfast so I cannot comment on what it was like in the evenings but the room is nice and large with an outside terrace which looked like it would be nice to sit out on in the summer.
Other facilities: The hotel does have quite a few meeting rooms - all together there are 10 rooms that can be hired for meetings and the maximum in the biggest room is 200 people. The hotel has a small gym that is actually quite colourful with bright red, green and blue walls! The gym also has a view of the Eiffel Tower which is quite nice to look at whilst working out. The hotel even has its own private indoor and outdoor parking which is an advantage over many other city centre hotel especially those who are driving into the centre as it means not having to park away from the hotel.
Price: The hotel is pretty reasonably priced or a 4 star and prices start at around £120 per night for 2 adults in one room and including breakfast. The hotel, as do many of the city centre hotels, have frequent offers for free night if staying 3 or more on various dates so it is worth looking into this before booking to save yourself some money and make the nightly rates even more attractive!
Overall opinion: I liked this hotel but, I have to say it probably wouldn't be somewhere I'd chose to stay of my own accord. I can't complain because worked arranged it but, as a round up I would say the things I liked about the hotel was the close location to the Eiffel tower and the quiet area around it. I also thought the breakfast was nice with both a hot and cold selection which kept me going during the busy day! However I was put off by the fact that the rooms didn't have the tea and coffee facilities as there is nothing more I like in the morning than getting a brew before even leaving the room! This for me is the kind of thing that would put me off staying in a hotel if I know about it before hand however if this doesn't bother you then I would definitely recommend it as it is a clean hotel, decent rooms and not a bad price - I would say it's probably more suited to older or business travellers who either want to be near to the Eiffel Tower or want to be in a quiet location.
