Merry Hill is a retail facility which was built between 1984-1989 with extensions still been built today.
It occupies a 125 acre site with two levels of covered mall shops, a retail warehouse park, a 10-screen multiplex cinema and 10,000 car parking spaces. The lettable floor areas of the various elements of Merry Hill are:
Covered shopping - 1,055,000 sq. ft Retail warehouse - 320,000 sq. ft Multiplex cinema - 40,000 sq. ft Other retail - 100,000 sq. ft Total 1,515,000 sq. ft
The covered malls provide over 185 shops and kiosks, a department store, several large variety stores, 2 supermarkets and 24 catering outlets providing 2,200 seats.
Depending upon the method of measurement, it is probably the third largest facility of it's type in the UK after Bluewater and the Metro Centre.
As well as its retail and cinema functions, Merry Hill provides banks and building societies, post office, tourist information centre and a range of community facilities such as senior citizens’ clubs, careers service and a citizens advice bureau. There are also plenty of toilets and baby changing rooms.
~~Which Shops Are There?~~
There are far too many for me to list them all, I will list just a few that come to mind:
The West Midlands biggest "NEXT" store BHS, M&S, Dorothy Perkins, Select, Pilot, Mark 1, Virgin Megastores, New Look, Home Zone, JJB, First Sport, JD Sports, FCUK, Monsoon, Boots, Superdrug, Adams, Mothercare, PC World, Allied Carpets, Spencers Market, Miss Selfridge Sainsburys and Asda. There is even a 10screen UCI cinema!
~~Are There any Cash Points?~~
Yes, there are many cash points dotted around the mall. there are also all major banks, such as: Lloyds TSB, Halifax, HSBC and Barclays, Most shops will accept cheques, debit or credit cards anyway.
~~Is Merry Hill Expensive?~~
That is a hard question to answer as there are so many shops! Personally I don't find it any cheaper or more expensive than anywhere else. Ok, it's different if you're looking for something to wear on Saturday night, as there are a lot of shops for you to shop around.
~~What About Food?~~
There are pleanty of opportunities for you to eat at Merry Hill, food outlets include: McDonalds, Burger King, Harry Ramsdens, Pizza Hut, KFC, and other restaurants like Pellini.
~~Can you smoke Around the mall?~~
No. Merry Hill is a NO SMOKING area, although certain restaurants do allow you to smoke.
~~Is There Anywhere I can Leave My Children?~~
Yes. There is a Snappers Creche located by the Customer services Suite, you do have to pay for this service though.
~~Is It Suitable For Disabled?~~
Yes. Merry Hill is Ideal for disabled people, they even have a free wheelchair hire if you need it!
The interior is pleasantly laid out in marble and brass finish. It has scenic lifts, water fountains and a pleasant surrounding area. They are even building their very own glass elevator!.
~~When is it open?~~
Merry Hill is open every day of the week. Saturdays, bank holidays and the run up to Christmas does get very crowded, but it is open from 11 - 5 on Sundays. If you can get there in the week.
During November and December, the mall is normally open until 10pm, Monday to Friday.
~~How Do I Get There?~~
I personally am very lucky, and live only 15 minutes away. However, it is still quite easy to get to. It is 5 minutes away from Cradley Heath Train Station, which busses pass on their way to Merry Hill. If you need directions, click on their website. (address at bottom of page)
Brierley Hill stands approximately 2 miles from Dudley town centre, 10 miles west of Birmingham and 7 miles south of Wolverhampton
