Advantages: Ferry available to Greece Disadvantages: Too many Tourists
I was sorry to read the one review you have on Messonghi Village Corfu. I went there way back in 1986 with a friend and had a very good time, although I wasn't very keen on the place we stayed in.
We stayed in an apartment block and had a bedroom with en-suite, which consisted of just a shower, sink and toilet.
The room was basic, containing the usual, a double bed, side cabinets, wardrobe, dressing table and a kitchen bar which consisted of just a kettle, cups and saucers and a couple of glasses (oh, not forgetting a couple of plates and cutlery, of course). There was no fridge.
We used to get our breakfast each morning. It was left hanging outside on the door handle. A bag, containing a few bread rolls, butter, sugar, tea bags, milk and a couple of sachets of coffee.
That wasn't too bad though, as Messonghi Village is full ...

Ciao members have rated this review on average: very helpful Review of Messonghi, Corfu
Advantages: It put me off going to Corfu again Disadvantages: I frittered away 2 precious weeks annual leave
Corfu is a lovely island, green and lush, with a great climate that allows swimming even early in the season. Unfortunately it has been taken over by mass tourism and is now wall-to-wall tourist shops, discos and fast food restaurants. One of the worst examples is Messonghi, in the south of the island. There it is virtually impossible to find a true Greek original atmosphere. In most tavernas the food is foul and we were even served tinned soup, which we paid quite dear. I suspect that some of the establishments charge 'tourist prices' to foreigners and 'greek prices' to locals. I have visited Corfu many times in the last 25 years but had not been there since 1991 and had a real shock to find that one of my favourite places in the world had been so ruined by mass tourism. The prices have become extortionate and the quality of the service ...
Advantages: friendly people, rooms, pools, public areas very well looked after, different themes everyday Disadvantages: food variation... but what was out was tasty!
. Unfortunately as stunning as the beach was, it was filled with beach sellers everyday so no sunbeds or relaxing down there! The complex also had a group of monkeys running around which were so funny and were great fun to watch... just make sure you close your balcony door when you go out!!!
Animation were very good, all different activites throughout the day although did leave you alone if you wernt interested. However if you take part you will get colored beads that you can swap in the gift shop, which is probably one of the cheapest hotels gift shops i have stayed in!
Evening entertainment was not too great, even the caribbean do it better, they do try, but we gave up by the 3nd night and chilled out in the bar.
They also do different tours every day to local attractions which look good, but we didnt do as only there for a short time.
We did ...
