I was sorry to read the one review you have on Messonghi Village Corfu. I went there way back in 1986 with a friend and had a very good time, although I wasn't very keen on the place we stayed in.
We stayed in an apartment block and had a bedroom with en-suite, which consisted of just a shower, sink and toilet.
The room was basic, containing the usual, a double bed, side cabinets, wardrobe, dressing table and a kitchen bar which consisted of just a kettle, cups and saucers and a couple of glasses (oh, not forgetting a couple of plates and cutlery, of course). There was no fridge.
We used to get our breakfast each morning. It was left hanging outside on the door handle. A bag, containing a few bread rolls, butter, sugar, tea bags, milk and a couple of sachets of coffee.
That wasn't too bad though, as Messonghi Village is full of cheap cafes and restaurants, all of which were very reasonable.
The room was situated a few minutes walk from the beach, which I didn't like at all. It was made up of shingles (no sand), and the sea was full of that large slimey dark green sea weed. I'm not that keen on the sea at the best of times so the sea weed made it much worse.
It was in the middle of the summer that we went there and it was very hot, lovely - this compensated for everything else.
Messonghi Village is situated on the south side of the island and it was very pretty when we were there. There was a lovely forest close by that we used to walk through each day.
There were lots to do on the beach. Many water activities available.
The night life was good. The next place along to the left was a very busy tourist attraction (I can't rmember what it was called) but it was a hotspot for nightlife and didn't cost much in a taxi (a few pounds way back then).
We stayed there for two weeks and I enjoyed every minute of it. The one important thing about Corfu is the residents, all of which are very friendly and helpful.
We took a couple of days out from Corfu by taking the ferry to the mainland Greece, a place called Igoumenitsa - which is a large harbour. From there we took a bus ride (about 1 hour and a half) up to a place high in the mountains called 'Ioannina'. It is supposed to be very good for shopping, only trouble was, that by the time we got there all the shops were closed. (They did have a good selection of shops though)
We stayed the night at a B & B by the harbour and the following day we took another bus trip to a place called 'Porec'. We were lucky to have been told about this place by someone in England. It was adorable, a lovely seaside place where the Greek people take their holidays. We had great fun there that day and I bought quite alot of my souveniers there. Laer that evening we caught the ferry back to our hotel room.
Overall I must say that I like Corfu but probably would not go there again as I found it too full of tourists. But I would still reccommend it worth a visit if you haven't been.
