My husband and I were staying in Phuket, crazy Patong Beach, for 2 weeks and decided that we wanted to get away for a couple of days for some peace and quiet. That is definately what we found!!
We booked the hotel same day using agoda for a mere 60 quid per night for a pool access room, though upon arrival we were informed that there were none avilable and we were upgraded to a private pool villa, score!!Our room was not ready when we arrived, but as we had arrived at 1pm and check-in time is 2pm this was not a surprise. We went to the pool bar and had a few drinks, oh my yum they do slushie drinks with alcohol in them I ordered a blue raspberry one and it was lush and nice and cold for the super hot sunny day, the second one I ordered was strawberry and this was not so good, the girl made it and then she went away to attend to something else....I took a drink and omg yuk yuk yuk it was like watery nothingness with a hint of rum lol...I complained to the new bar guy and he tasted the drink then laughed, the other girl had put in the ice and strawberries and rum and that was it she had forgotten the strawberry syrup to make it yummy so he made me a new fresh blue raspberry one and put a huge amount of rum in it to make up for the mistake...lets just say this was the last cocktail I thought I should have before going to see if our room was ready haha.
We went back to reception and our room was ready, they got our bags for us from where they had stored them and loaded them and us on to a wee golf buggy to drive us to our room which was nice.Wow is all I can say the room was HUGE there was the four poster bed right in the middle of the room with mozzie net canopy on it, but off to the side there was a large day bed and I mean large which had loads of pillows on it then there was the mini fridge and some cupboards with tea and coffee making facilities on top. You had to pay for the items in the fridge but to be honest they were not that expensive....though we tended to use say a tin of sprite and then replace it ourselves later befopre the maid came the next day so we werent charged lol. in front of the bed there was a large unit with a flat screen TV on it and a DVD player!! the only problem with this was that although you could see the tv from bed you couldnt see it from the day bed, they should of provided another TV in that area or else laid the room out a little better...just saying because at nighttime we would watch tv before going to sleep and we always had the mozzie nets closed on the bed so it was hard to see through, but if we could of seen it from the day bed we could of watched from there and then got into bed when we wanted to sleep! Decent aircon in the bedroom so we were abkle to keep it nice and cold and never had any mozzie problems, we only saw one and disposed of it quickly. The bed was not very comfy though it wasnt hard really it just wasnt comfy and the pillows werent soft enough for us but thats ok - another thing that doesnt help with sleeping is the noise at night not from the hotel or other guests but from the bugs and frogs and things on the roof, etc my goodness we never had a good sleep either night, they should provide ear plugs lol.
Anyways, there is a doorway from the bedroom that takes you into an area that is kinda like a walk in dressing room/wardrobe, there is space for your clothes, a dressing table, a hairdryer (which is rubbish by the way so bring your own), they also provide you with a beach bag including towels, slippers and robes - there is no aircon in this section so it is hot; from this area you then go into the bathroom which I have to say is the biggest bathroom I have ever seen....its kinda like an indoor/outdoor bathroom as in there is a door you can go outside to get to the pool so I suppose its more of a wet room. the only thing that bothered me about this room was that the shower and toilet are beside eachother but they share a door that is on sliders which is stupid also there is a long rectangular hole in the wall between the two im sorry but if im in the shower I dont need to see if my hubby decides he needs to nip in for a pee! apart from that its great (well that and the ants but that can't be helped). The shower has a regular showerhead but if you turn the leaver the right way then you can also use the rain shower, which ever you prefer. There are dual sinks so you dont have to fight over them in the morning and a huge mirror behind them, the provide ear buds, razor, tooth brushes, toothpaste, shower caps and a sewing kit so all you need really, there is also shampoo and showergel in the shower (they need to think and provide conditioner as well though as most women use it). The free standing bath is massize, the floor of it is surround by stones/pebbles which is lovely but makes for hard work getting in and out as they hurt your feet and I only have small legs so couldnt reach without standing on them lol...lets just say the bath is big enough for two ;) There is also a wooden rail to hang your wet clothes and towels on along with a wet wooden ladder type thing that your clean/fresh townels are set on each day.The bathroom then opens out on to the pool area which is great, your own private pool which isnt too deep but still deep enough, there is a double sunbed with comfy cushions on it (though we never used this due to the presence of a large spider - even after we got rid of the spider it freaked us out too much lol)...along with this there is a table and 4 chairs under a canopy type thing, the chairs are pretty cool as the seats lift up to provide storage within. There are a lot of ants around the pool area but dont worry as they are never actually in the pool but I will warn, the table is there for a reason so use it....I left my tin of sprite sitting on the ground beside the pool and when I went to lift it, it was quite literally infested with ants which was soooo creepy looking, my hubby kindly disposed of it for me. There is also an outside rainshower just before you go in the door which is perfect for washing off the chlorine, you can even take your swimmers off right outside in the shower as the private villas all have large walls all around them so no one can see in at all...your 'garden gate' also locks from the inside so dont worry. Oh be careful there seems to be little visitors ok well big visitors around the pool area of giant black and red millipedes, we have no idea if they are dangerous or not so we choose to stay away from the top left side of our pool where he appeared lol.
The breakfast in this hotel is ok its not as nice as what we had at the b-lay tong, their bacon didnt taste real but it was satisfactory they had the usual mix of english/continental/thai foods that you would expect plus tea/coffee/juices (their coffee was well nice) the waiting staff were really nice and always remembered our names even though we have never told them our names beforehand haha. You can eat outside or inside and they have smoking and non smoking areas which is good. We never had dinner in the restaurant but did order room service from the hotel one stormy night and it was lovely - spring roll starters then I had a club sandwich with chips and my hubby had a Thai curry which he thoroughly enjoyed (though not spicy enough). The housekeeper only had to clean our room once as we were only there for 2 nights but she did a great job and everything was spotless. All the staff that we spoke to or met were very pleasant and friendly and always had a smile on their faces.
Another great thing about this hotel is that the golf buggy drivers will drive you to the end of the long street and come back and collect you later to take you up to the hotel (there is a wee 'bus' stop area with phone that you ring the hotel on to send the driver). If you dont mind the walk its not too bad only five or ten mins, but whens its too hot or too rainy then its a great relief. The pool at this hotel is fantastic and although we ended up with a private pool villa we defo would of preferred the pool access room we had request or a pool access villa as it was very private and you could go from your room all the way into the main pool are and out to the bar/restaurant, the pool was also the most perfect temperature, the only thing I would say is that the deep end take up too much area, I am not a good swimmer and had to go so far up to the other end of the pool to reach the bottom that I was near enough in the pool access area so couldnt enjoy the pool properly, I could sit on the pool steps at the deep end though and turn on the jacuzzi bubbles which was nice. The sun loungers were clean and comfy and the staff would put the umbrellas up for you in an instance, they also provided pool side waiter service if you wanted (oh yea when we were at the pool bar on the first day the guy making the drinks kept us a wee sample of every drink he made - all non-alcoholic ones but theywere yummy they have all sorts for vitimins, detoxifying, fruits, etc you have to try some).
I went for a foot massage one morning while we were there and it was lovely, so relaxing. I went in and they got a basin of warm water for me to put my feet in, the girl then proceeded to scrub my feet and legs with some lovely peppermint scrub and went over this with sliced limes, it was lovely, she then rinsed me off and dryed my feet, I was then provided with some slippers. We then moved into the massage room, it had peaceful music playing and when I lay on the bed the lady covered my eyes to block out the light and she got to work on my feet. I had mentioned I have had surgery on my toes and they don't bend and she took this into consideration. The massage was lovely, my feet and legs were done even though it was only meant to be a foot massage, after the hour the lady went to my head and massaged my temples before removing the cloth from over my eyes, how nice, she then asked me to sit up and proceeded to massage my back and shoulders for a few minutes which was lovely, if I had of had all day I dfefo would of got a full body massage!! Once the massage was completed the lady left the room and I put my shoes back on and followed her out and how nice there was a little cup of Thai tea waiting for me which was surprisingly really yummy, I paid left my tip and off I went with 2 very happy feet and legs :) defo a recommendation. While I was in getting my massage my hubby used the gym he said it wasn't massive but it was good enough for him and thats about all the infom he provided me with lol typical!
I think that about covers it for this hotel as we were only there for two days we didnt look to see what other facilities and things were on offer. Check out was quick and easy and the guy came in the golf buggy to collect us and our bags, the room was checked quickly to make sure we didnt owe any money for anything and the taxi was ready and waiting and we were off back to crazy patong.I would defo recommend this hotel for relaxation, you could spend a lot here on food and drinks as its a little more expensive what with it being a hotel (heniken was a bit of a rip off - happy hour is always good for drinking though lol), but you dont have to you can buy alcohol/take aways and have them in your room our in your outside garden/by the pool if you have a villa so its no big deal, the staff are great though if we were ever in Kata again we would probably maybe try out a different place due to the noisy bugs keeping us awake at night and just the wee silly things I mention though if we did stay here again it would be in a regular pool access room due to us wanting access to the pool room, they are bound to be quieter than the villas as well lol.
I will add pictures soon :)
