(+) Beautiful beach hotel in the most buzzing area of Dubai! (-) There is still construction surrounding the hotel, but everywhere has to start somewhere.
Located in Deira this hotel is convenient for the great shopping and business areas for which Dubai is famous. The hotel has a coffee shop which offers guests breakfast, lunch and dinner from a good buffet selection or a la carte menu. The hotel's 'traditional' Irish pub get's quite lively and attracts guests from outside the hotel. Rooms are traditional in style, clean and decorated to a good standard. Deluxe rooms include the following upgraded benefits, a bottleof wine in your room on arrival, a bottle of mineral water daily, half an hour of internet usage in the business centre daily, tea, coffee and cookies daily in the lounge and a fruit basket daily.
Advantages: shopping, beaches, gold, nice and warm weather Disadvantages: Can get too hot :-)
...a couple of days we also discovered that the bus could take us to most places and it was very cheap. One-way tickets were 1,00/1,50 Dhs (0,3/0,45 €). The main bus-stations that we used were Al Ghubaiba (Bur Dubai) and Gold Souk bus station on the Deira side. Get a bus route and figure it out. It must be mentioned that the bus drivers also seem to have the same aggressive driving style that the other drivers have and the bus trips were not always comfortable. But hang on and you’ll be fine. There is also an area in the front of the bus that is reserved for women.
Remember that the traffic can be pretty bad at times and it will often take quite a while to get to the destinations. Sometimes it was in fact a lot faster to walk compared to sitting and waiting on the bus.
We also tried out the Abra of course. These are small boats that cross...

...are not experienced in desert driving. Even experienced drivers tend to travel with another vehicle in case of emergencies.
Shopping: There is a wide selection of goods available throughout the city at very low prices. There are malls selling everything from fake Gucci to the real Gucci at the top-end shops. Well-known shopping areas include the Deira Gold Souq for, as the name suggests, gold; Deira Old Souq for spices; Al Fahidi street for electronics; Deira Towers for carpets, the Wafi Centre for various luxury items and Meena Bazaar for textiles. Bur Dubai and Deira Covered Souq have an Indian/Pakistani influence. And Karama is the district to bargain for a fake Gucci watch, if you are so inclined.
Shopping Malls: There are quite a few of them and they are all unique. Some of them are Mall of the Emirates (the largest or the lot and a large part...

Advantages: Dubai is a safe place with very good quality of life. There is universal brotherhood everywhere. Disadvantages: None for me, but the hot weather for tourists who are not used to this.
...was growing, too, and slowly but surely reached the prime youth. Even though when I look at the mirror every morning, an old, no, older man stares at me, I never repented on my decision to come to Dubai for greener pastures. Because Dubai made me, and Dubai is in me.
Better known as the Pearl of the Gulf, Dubai is one of the seven emirates that form the United Arab Emirates and is a paradise on earth. It stretches 72 km along the Arabian Gulf and has an area of 3885 sqkm. Dubai is the second largest emirate. A lot can happen in a space of a few years but never more so than in Dubai; it's currently a massive construction site but in the nicest sort of way! The last time I visited Dubai in 2002, I stayed at Oasis Beach Hotel in Jumeirah. At that time the... more
The Burj-Al-Arab (Arabian Tower) is Dubai and the UAE's answer to the landmark symbols of other countries, they compare it to the Eiffel tower (it's slightly taller by virtue of its mast) and other icons.
