London is among the capital's most enduring design phenomena, a hotel that combines cool looks and cosseting service with a contemporary mindset, putting it squarely on the map of travellers seeking to be at the centre of the action. From floor-to-ceiling windows, look out over a glittering skyline, comfortable in the knowledge you are standing right where it matters - on Park Lane, with the city's best bar and restaurant in the very same building.A contemporary hotel with an enduring design aesthetic. The hotel's sleek yet serene urban image combines soft whites, pear-wood panelling, suede upholstery and pure Egyptian cottons. Colours are subtle, featuring cosseting mauves and warm plum. Carefully selected pieces of antique Asian furniture introduce soft, Eastern accents. This is the work of Keith Hobbs, regarded as a true innovator in hotel design for the modern generation. Natural light floods the spaces, while walls of glass draw you into the city. It is an uplifting perspective, proof of simplicity's power, and the chic appeal of understatement. It is your private haven at the heart of the metropolis, a place to retreat to when the need for quiet comes upon you.
quiet, pleasant and central location. Ideally situated for shopping, and with great transport connections to all parts of London, it promises a relaxing stay in this bustling city. Stylishly decorated with an emphasis on comfort and up-to-the-minute technology, the real beauty of this hotel is its position in a smart, central area yet off the tourist track. Just a few minutes' walk from the magnificent Hyde Park, where you almost forget that you're in the centre of one of the world's largest cities, on the other side of the park you will find Harrods and Harvey Nichols, while nearer by you have the West End.
Advantages: The London underground is an excellent way to travel Disadvantages: Confusing routes
...The Metropolitan line is ideal for people living on the outskirts of London who want to get into central London with minimum hassle. However, once you reach Kings Cross you'd be well advised to switch lines for destinations in the city's centre. From Kings Cross you can easily get to popular places like Covent Garden and Leicester Square on the Piccadilly line - excellent if you want to do a bit of shopping! Or take the Northern line to get to Bank where you can take the Docklands Light Railway (well worth it for the experience of travelling in a computer controlled train). Just make sure you know which tube will take you to your destination as the layout can get rather confusing at times!...

Achingly Hip Review ofThe Metropolitan, Londonby
gollygumdrops
Advantages: Met Bar, great rooms, view, location Disadvantages: Expensive, paparazzi!
...The Metropolitan is one of a small but growing band of designer hotels in London. It is situated on Hyde Park Corner, between the Hilton and the Inter Continental. Rooms are expensive, this is certainly not a cheap getaway stop. However, if someone else is paying it is great. Rooms are large and comfortable and have a CD player and video. Room service will deliver the CDs and tapes of your choice from a huge selection. If possible get a room facing the park. The view is spectacular.
Food choices vary from bistro type food in the bar and on room service to excellent sushi in the very popular Nobu Restaurant (bookings required). The Metropolitan is probably best known for the Met Bar where the hip crowd hang out. It is members only, and a room usually gives you temporary membership rights, but this is not guaranteed. It does...
