Advantages: Crystal clear warm water Disadvantages: Going Home
I did my open water course in May 04. I was staying in the Fiesta Palladium grand resort and spa which had a dive shop in it's grounds. I decided to give it a try and signed up for the beginners course, just half a day from classroom to sea. The dive site its self was part of the mezo american reef which runs from cozumel down to honduras. the viz on my first dive was about 30m and the dive site itself (umberella reef) was absolutly spectacular. ......varieties and colours of soft coral, all at only 12m. We saw southern ray, baraccuda, trumpet fis, parrot fish, angel fish and many others. As it was my first dive it only lasted just over half an hour and I really loved every minute so I signed up for the full open water course. I did 4 more dives altogether, on Ruina Maya, Ruina Maya deep, and bahia north. The dives were all absolutly amazing and I saw all kinds of sea life including great barracuda ... Read review

I’ve been to Cancun twice and have detailed my experiences of the airport for both times, Arrival & Departure below. I think I should add that I have been to many airports(15-20 at a guess) so please don’t read my reviews and think im exaggerating ive never felt this way about one before. Additionally don’t be put off going to Cancun that is the last thing I would wish upon you. It is great. August 2002 - Arrival We stepped off the plane and climbed ......say the airport experience at Cancun has improved greatly from the first time we went, but whether it gets worse/better in the future I will still go. They do seem to be making improvements and anyway I wouldn’t miss going to Cancun for anything. I recommend the airport only because Cancun is so great and you have to do it to get there! ... One of the most beautiful Islands I have ever been is Isla Mujeres It is very small island long 5 miles and wide 650 meters. it have got the clearest sea water and the beaches are surrounded with white sand and very clean. You can access this Island only on a boat, from Cancun or Puerto Juarez. In Pre-Columbian times the island was sacred to the Maya Moon Goddess, Ix Chel. When the Spanish arrived here in the 16th century they named it "Isla Mujeres" ......of the Moon Goddess here. Isla Mujeres is located close to one of the many coral reefs where you can do Snorchling or scuba diving You can hire a golf car it usualy cost around 10 - 12 USD for an hour and half. You don't need driving licence to drive a golf car but you have to show them your ID. Without that they won't be able to lend you the car. There is plenty things to do on the island, you can do Swimming with a dolphins on a open sea which ... Read review

...On the journey down to Akumal you will pass stunning hotels and what can only be decribed as shanty towns. There is a a lot of poverty still in mexico but the people despite their poverty are happy and very helpful. Right on to the resort!!! When we arrived we drove down a long driveway that looked like we were going into the jungle, but once the tree's cleared we could see the entrance and the resort which was very nice. The staff at the resort ......the show was cool. Akumal means "Turtle" an appropiate name considering whilst swimming in the shallow waters you will see plenty of sea turtles floating about as well as angel fish and other stunning fish, but be warned, you will also see other not so nice things.....such as baracuda's!! (i came face to face whilst snorkling) If you get bored at the resort then you can walk to the end of the driveway and pick up a cab to the nearest town which ... Read review

I recently returned from diving in La Paz, West Mexico. La Paz is a town with a population of about 200,000 and is located on the coast of the Sea of Cortez. I dived with The Cortez Club (who are excellent) and who are one of only a few dive centres in the area. Having gone in October I was there just as the high season is about to end. Most of the divers are American and tend to go down for long weekends, while for the Brits you really need to ......journey on the plane (about 14 hours with a stop in LA). I paid alot overall for the whole trip, I couldn't even guess how much the same package is now with the Airlines all desperately seeking passengers. The diving at this time of year is focused on three elements - Sea Lions, Mantas, and Hammerhead Sharks. There are though seasonal variations and some great wreck dives to do as well. The main difference for many UK divers who go backwards and ... Read review
