...a bargain ! Hotel Casa del Balam Calle 60 Merida 97000 Mexico Overall, this is a lovely little, but luxurious hotel with an intimate colonial feel. Excellent quality service made our (short) stay here very pleasant, and I would certainly recommend anyone to stay here rather than some anonymous chain, like the Hyatt or similar. Advantages: Gorgeous hotel, great food
Disadvantages: A little bit expensive

Fiesta Americana Merida is a great hotel ideally located and stablished on a gorgeous building. Although is part of a major Mexican hotel chain it really respects the look of the city (white colonial buildings). It's very spacious as well. Can be a little bit more expensive than other small hotels in town but it definitely worths the price. Advantages: Beautiful Grounds
Disadvantages: Certain privately held condos

Casa del Mar is a gorgeous small resort. The grounds are beautifully maintained. Our unit La Perle 304 which is privately owned and managed, was a disappointment. When we arrived, there were hundreds of ants on the kitchen counter. The apartment sized refrigerator was inadequate unless you plan to use it only for drinks. The freezer wasn't cold enough to make ice nor large enough for anything except 3 water bottles. The toilet was cracked and leaking ...
...The leak caused the water to run off and on all day and all night. Judging by the corrosion around the floor, it had been leaking for some time. The beds were very hard causing sore hips in the morning. The TV in the bedroom was nonfunctional. This is not a condo to enjoy a restful getaway. I assume that other condos in this resort are much better maintained and managed--I would look for other units if I were to stay there again. Never would I consider ... Read review

...we came back and the Iberostar Tucan caught my eye for many reasons. This is very lucky since we definitely wanted to go back to the Playacar area and First Choice only offered two hotels in this area; the Sandos and the Iberostar Tucan. Luckily they both are on the best bit of beach but the Iberostar Tucan (at the time of us going) is a superior hotel by far. That said the Sandos is undergoing huge renovations to become a five star at the moment. ...
...certain activities. At the Iberostar Tucan, you are presented upon arriving with either a green (over 18s) or white (under 18s) wristband upon check in. Don't worry the drinking age in Mexico is 18 not 21. At the Tucan you are allowed unlimited food from the buffet restaurant, unlimited room service and unlimited drinks of any kind.
