Don't Buy a Ticket

Advantages: There are none, except for those who make a profit from these victim dolphins.
Disadvantages: It teaches millions of people that exploiting nature in the name of entertainment is permissible.

...the dolphin shows at the Miami Seaquarium are based upon. Please consider the following: Dolphins have evolved over more than 50 millions years and have adapted perfectly to life in the oceans. They are free-ranging, social, intelligent, and sonic wild creatures, exhibiting evidence of self-awareness and a highly developed emotional sense. Captivity permanently separates them from the three most important aspects of their lives: Their pods, their ...
...the killer whale that the Miami Seaquarium advertises as "Miami's number one attraction:" Lolita was between six and seven years old when she was captured in Pen Cove, Whidbey Island, in Washington State in August 1970. Her captors were Ted Griffin of the Seattle Aquarium and Sea World’s Don Goldsberry. Using speedboats and explosives, they rounded up about 80 orcas that day. Four young orcas were killed during the capture: Trapped in the capture ...

Miami Airport - I would pay to avoid it

Advantages: Planes
Disadvantages: EVERYTHING else

I had a 2 hour stopover on my way back home from South America, and it was a hellish 2 hours, during which I could never be sure I would make my connection. The airport is absolutely chaotic, too busy and understaffed, and doesn't inspire any kind of confidence if you've a connection to make. I had the added disadvantage of being on crutches and with a flight to catch, but there is no clear system to expedite passengers who are in this situation. ...
...comment to a member of staff that I had little time to make my connection made sure I sped through every queue. In Miami, chances are the staff wouldn't even understand you, as they mostly speak Spanish. Now I'm not against languages other than English, and I'm not one of these travellers who expect English to be spoken in all foreign countries, but this is an international airport in an English-speaking country... For disabled passengers, a wheelchair ...

Miami ad-vice: Avoidance recommended

Advantages: Quite handy if you're actually staying in Miami
Disadvantages: The list is endless!

Miami – Florida, with a population of two million, is one of the US’s most hip and happening cities. On a geographical location of 26º North, and therefore benefiting from almost constant year-round sunshine, many of the world’s rich and famous have chosen the place as their second home, buying beachside real-estate for millions. Tourism is a major industry of Miami and Dade County, with miles of white sandy beaches that border clear Atlantic waters, ...
...Royal Caribbean International) both choosing Miami as their home port. The city is also a major transit area for most of the world’s leading airlines, and is widely recognised as the USA’s gateway to the Caribbean. So, you’d expect such a vibrant place to have a super modern, ultra efficient airport wouldn’t you? Well, if that’s what you’d expect, you’d be wrong. Even though MIA (Miami International Airport) handles 14 million overseas passengers ...

You thought slavery had been abolished

Advantages: See Whales and Dolphins Close up
Disadvantages: Deprived of freedom. Animals suffer stress. High cost.

...Wrong! Here at Miami Seaquarium you can witness "Lolita", a Killer Whale plucked from her natural habitat off Puget Sound in 1970 as she performs tricks for food. This killer whale or orca has been confined to captivity for 33 years - longer than most murderers get in jail. Yet this highly intelligent marine mammal has not committed any crime. Instead her captors confine her to a small tank to entertain the crowds. However, have you ever thought ...
...may not know is the Miami Seaquarium applied for a licence to recapture him in 2002, when he was watched interacting with people off Norway. Thankfully the Norwegian Government has stopped these spurious efforts. Miami Seaquarium tried to get the US NMFS to grant a licence on the grounds that he could not fend for himself in the wild. This is untrue and there are many experts who have and will continue to dedicate time to make sure his rehabilitation ...

Barracuda...........

Advantages: Clean and clear and warm
Disadvantages: Not much to do if you are not into water sports

............everywhere!!!!! Mind you having said that they seem to leave "us" divers alone even if they do look a little nasty. If you live in the UK and are used to diving in very little viz most of the time, well that's what it seems like every time I dive at sea in this country, then the Keys is definitely one of those places that you see in the glossy mags which promote diving. It's clean and clear and warm and that's everything you need to keep ...
