Michaelstow has this lovely big old house that I believe you can stay in and lots of chalets near by. Location if you don't mind driving down narrow roads you will find that Michaelstow is a bit out in the middle of nowhere. But seeing as this middle of nowhere is in the Cornish countryside to me that is not a problem! But as far as I can remember there is no nearby station and not even sure if a bus goes pass so I think with this one you would need your own transport. Accommodation We stayed in a chalet . These were quite cheap but very basic. The bed was really uncomfortable but I think with beds what someone thinks is uncomfortable can be comfy to someone else. But the chalets are clean. We had to ask for a few more cooking untensils as you really do get the basic items but they were able to provide the items we needed. The chalets are terraced and on 2 levels in a block but didn't find that noise was a problem which I was quite suprised about. Facilities Games room - has table tennis and other types of game you can take part in free. It's in one of the buildings just off the house and we did enjoy ourselves there. Swimming pool - covered and heated. My partner would go for a morning swim and it wasn't very busy at all. (this was in mid september though) The pool was clean and a good size. He swam with a frog one day - who had obviously mistaken the pool as a nice warm lake! But even though I just dangled my legs in it as I'm not a swimmer, it seemed like a really nice pool to me!! Entertainment - there is a bar in the house and night time entertainment. We did not see any of the entertainment but when passing the bar at night there would be quite a few people there so I assume it was fairly good. The bar was very nice to sit in earlier in the night to have a drink.
When we first went into the chalet we were quite disappointed but the site itself does have a charm. The house is very nice and I think if we were staying in the house we wouldn't have been disappointed at first. But saying that the price for the chalet was good and after a while we were very happy there. Also we did go there a few years ago so chalets may have improved. last year when we were driving around near Michaelstow we popped into the site just to have a nose and the feelings I felt for it was good. I think that is quite a good tester of how you felt about accomodation/site if you can think back and say you still liked the site and would book there again. Which we would do once we have tried out different sites in different locations around cornwall. As said we went in mid september and apartfrom the bar at night the pooland the games room hardly had any people in them which I quite liked. obviously though thismaynot be the case in summer. If you want decent priced accommodation, not bothered about it being basic,a good pool and don't mind narrow roads in lovely cornish countryside staying here is a good base and you could do a lot,lot worse
Advantages: central to most places of interest in cornwall Disadvantages: everything, especially the cleanliness
...from a weeks stay at Michaelstow and can safely say that it is the worst place I have ever stayed in. We stayed in the Chase apartment so we could take the dog. Dogs are not allowed anywhere on the site apart from the walled garden that houses the apartments. It smelt awful, and it was damp, there was condensation running down the windows. There was no hoover to do a quick tidy up, so by the end of our stay the carpet was filthy and there were dead ... ...own cleaning products. The sheets given to us on arrival were disgusting and smelly. The television set didn't work, the fridge was broken and the electric meter was extortionate. The pool was freezing, and the food was average. The launderette only had 2 washing machines and 2 dryers which isn't good given the amount of people on the site, we spent a whole morning waiting for one washer to become free so we could do a load of washing!, we then waited ...

Advantages: reasonably priced, quiet and safe Disadvantages: a bit off the beaten track
...from another enjoyable week at michaelstow manor, fifth year running now, I'd like to share some thoughts on this place with others.
There seems to be 2 types of chalet on the site, the Liam and the Rosewood (Ithink), with the former being in need of some upgrading and the latter from the looks of things having already benefitted from a refurbishment. However our chalet (Liam type) was clean inside and everything we required for our stay was there.
... ...has been here before and basically the price is fair for the accomodation, we probably could pick numerous holes in the chalets, but not for the price we paid. To sum our chalet up, it was clean provided us with what we wanted and was an ideal base to explore Cornwall (and its many golf courses, try St Kews, no matter what your ability its a good way to pass a few hours in a very relaxed and hospitable club)
The site itself is well off the beaten ...

Quick review of Michaelstow Manor Holiday Park (Cornwall)
We have stayed at Michaelstow for the past 13 years both with young children and now with dogs. The site is such a peaceful experience and the accomodation superb. Nearby are beaches beautiful scenery and walks in every direction along esturies, throught the beautiful Cornish countryside, woods and so much more. You can easily enjoy trips to nearby Wadbridge and Padstow along with many more places of interest such as Bodmin and the quaint villages along the way. We cannot wait to book again this year for our first bi annual visit. ...

The shop is very basic that sells out of date bread and just basic stuff that you need (but no cling film or tin foil)
To sum up Michaelstow Manor.....you would be better off spending your stay at near by bodmin prison. ...
