Micklegate Bar is one of the main entrances to the city of York, and is the one by which every monarch since Henry VIII has entered the city. The Bar has stood on the site since the twelfth century, and is worth a visit in its own right. The museum inside is just a bonus. It's another small, focused museum, even though it's part of the larger York Archeological Trust organisation. These are what York does best, and there's plenty to choose from.
