Warning - in red light district!!!
Review of Berna Hotel, Milan by spice81

Advantages: good breakfast, handy location
Disadvantages: red light district, hotel split into 2 buildings

...a triple room. Hotel Berna fitted our requirements but it wasn't anything special. We arrived late to the hotel due to flight delays and were a bit worried about the neighbourhood while driving through it. The following afternoon our fears were confirmed when we discovered it was in the red light district of Milan (during daylight hours too!!). I definitely wouldn't recommend the area for families with young children, or single travellers who might ...
...2 other girls, i felt safe enough, but we didn't venture out at night on our own. The hotel is split into 2 buildings and unfortunately we were in the building over the road from reception which meant we had to walk over for breakfast. The breakfast room was small, but just about big enough and the food good. Despite being in a less "nice" area, the location was handy in terms of walking distance from the central shopping area, cathedral etc- think ... Read review

DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE!!!
Review of Starhotels Splendido, Milan by jarrel

Advantages: location + breakfast
Disadvantages: poor services

Starhotels Splendido it's by far the first hotel to AVOID when you're in Milan. The first memory I'll have of this hotel is that I've got my digital camera stolen, obviously by some of the hotel staff since I didn't have any guests and the room was always locked. I filled a complaint with the local police but with no hope to get something recovered. I've contacted my company to try to do the check-out earlier than predicted as I don't feel safe here ...
...almost 20 000 euro for me and my colleague accommodation (almost 3 months here, it really was a hell) and I've got robbed. Other leak points: the rooms are very small (I think the ad photos from their site were taken at another hotel) and noisy (the subway is just under the hotel + the rooms are not well isolated). Some of the front desk personal is not helpful at all (especially one man 40-50 years old, with spectacles and a little bald, I couldn't ... Read review

Exceeded my expectations
Review of Verona Hotel, Milan by avacarrdo

Advantages: Clean and cheap-ish, close to main train station
Disadvantages: Not a great place for socialising

...OVERVIEW: The hotel Verona is a one-star hotel located on a back street near to Milan's central train station. It has nineteen rooms, consisting of twelve single rooms, five double rooms and a triple. There are communal bathrooms, although it seems that most, if not all rooms have an ensuite. Rooms have heating and airconditioning, a small ante-room where breakfast is served, and reception is open 24 hours a day. LOCATION AND CHECKING IN: The ...
...five minute amble from Milano Centrale (The main station). The main tourist attractions, such as the Cathedral are three or four stops on the metro, which is located underneath the central station. There didn't seem to be many touristy things around the hotel; mostly small cafes, neighbourhood shops and other hotels. Then again, we didn't really have time to explore the neighbourhood on foot. The area seemed safe to walk around in at night, although ... Read review
