Milan undoubtedly has some of the finest designer boutiques in Europe, and the scope is incredible, with more or less entire streets filled with designer boutiques. Of course with the Italian Lire, the price tags run into the millions, and there is very little that anyone coming on holiday can really afford to substantially overhaul their wardrobe. Indeed becasue of Milan's status, there almost seems to be a slight premium on prices of clothes - a Milano tax! All the international names are present in Milan as well as a whole host of Italian designers, whose work is bubbling under the surface ready to make the big breakthrough. For an up and coming designer Milan is wonderful as you can see what is in and what to go for for next season, but for mere mortals, the prices are a bit out of the range of everyday shoppers.
