...amount of work that has gone into the Duomo. Unfortunately, due to the industrial smog you don't always get a great view from the roof - it was a lovely sunny day but we struggled to see the San Siro stadium which is only a few KMs away.
Whilst Milan is very industrial but there are a couple of other highlights:-
Castello Sforesco museum - also walk out back where it has been set out like an English Park with a few places to get a drink/snack and a few souvenirs. The Central train station is also a beautiful building
There are a lot of hawkers in the Duomo area but a polite no normally works and you must learn to cross the road like an Italian!
I don't think I've ever seen so many McDonalds within such a small area but there are also some nice places to eat - we found a good restaurant just off Piazza Spizzico where you can...

Advantages: cheap, prompt, comprehensive. Disadvantages: Not much after about 1 or 2am
...One of the most striking things about Milan is the traffic. It's terrible - people drive like maniacs, park like lunatics and lean on the horn at any opportunity. For this reason it is always better to avoid the stress of trying to drive anywhere at every opportunity. OK, you cuold take a taxi, but with a public transport system as good as Milan's you'd be a fool to do so. . . . Public transport in Miln is completely integrated - the buses, trams and tube trains are all run by the same company, so a single ticket can get use any or all of these methods to get you where you want to go. If you have a bus pass (enquire at the offices, near the tube station Zara at the end of the yellow line) then it's even better value for money. . . . most people though, just buy un biglietto for 1500lira (about 50p) at any one of the little newsagent...

Advantages: Historic, decent restaurants, good shopping!!! Disadvantages: Don't speak the language!!

No problem with the country or the people. It does help though when you can speak a little bit of the language. Could I? No, not a word. So Dani taught me a word or three.
"Busta di munetza!" (Excuse the incorrect spelling). "Bag of rubbish," it means, literally. Right, that will get me a long way when I ask for a cup of coffee won't it?
Dani hates flying. God that journey was an absolute nightmare for the first 20 minutes. I held her hand like a kind friend would do. Had no blood in my left hand by the end. The price you pay...

Where not to stay
Location perfect - hence the 2. Food - little choice, lacking in imagination (mash potatoes, mouldy bread). Staff underpaid (and months in arrears, some rude, mostly untrained, lacking managagement - except for bar manager. All... more
We stayed here for a fortnight and we did not want to go home!
The hotel is exceptionally clean with stone colured marble walls and floors on all levels. It has a small cosy rooftop pool overlooking the harbour of Valetta. The hotel rooms are well... more
