Millennium Bailey\\\'s Hotel London prides itself on being more like a magnificent town house than a traditional hotel, with an atmosphere that is as refreshing as it is relaxing....
more...First opened in 1876 it was one of the very first purpose built hotels in London and was fully restored in 1996. The traditional service offered at this hotel combine with the stylish decor and warm atmosphere to create a relaxing and enchanting ambience. On site the hotel offers the \\\Bugis Street Restaurant\\\", a Modern Chinese Bistro serving delightful dishes from Singapore and other exotic locations in the Far East, the \\\"Bombay Brasserie\\\" for Indian Cuisine, the \\\"Bailey\\\'s Olives Restaurant\\\" for International contemporary dishes open Monday till Saturday and the \\\"Olives Cocktail Bar\\\" a modern sophisticated style bar with a warm atmosphere. Whilst most hotel bedrooms are simply a place to sleep, the Millennium Bailey\\\'s Hotel aim to be much more. Peaceful and quiet, a retreat from the city bustle, providing the ideal place to muse over your day, at the end of which, you can sleep comfortably in the knowledge that everything has been taken care of."

This hotel was a mixed bag.

I stayed with a colleague for business purposes. We stayed for one night, mid-week on April 7th 2008. I stayed in a room on the second floor and my colleague was on the first floor.

On the plus side -

If you want a hotel close to a tube station, this is perfect. Gloucester Rd was right opposite, 100yds. It was also close to South Kensington which was one stop away on the tube and very nice for shopping.

The double glazing in the room was great, so there was no noise from the street. Unfortunately my window wouldn't open, it was broken. I didn't report this so just had to live with it.

I booked two single rooms for myself and a colleague, we both got double rooms, which were spacious. The bed was comfortable, linen clean, water hot and the bathroom was clean.

The television in the room was very good, lots of channels, new and in working order.

I got an extremely reasonable tariff, £107 for Dinner, bed and breakfast for one night. This was booked through lastminute.com on their Top Secret Hotel deal.

The food in Olives restaurant was excellent, i would recommend it for quality and value. I had crab for starter and then steak. The female Maitre D was also helpful, pleasant and had a sense of humour. Unfortuantely our waiter wasn't so good, i got cold coffee, and my heavily pregnant colleague got given a glass of wine i ordered, having had to come back twice to check what i wanted. He was either very new or very rubbish!

Not so good -

The room decor was average. There was paper coming away from the walls, the bathroom appeared dated, and the pictures would not be my choice! However, it was clean and reasonable, if dated.

On arrival i asked if i needed to book a table for dinner. I was told it wasn't necessary. When my colleague and i left to go shopping an hour later, we were told the only time we could eat was 6pm or 8.30pm. I was annoyed at being misinformed, there was a large booking of 40 so they couldn't accommodate us at any other time. I'm diabetic, so i need to know when i'm eating. Minor annoyance, but staff giving correct and accurate information when asked is important to me.

Despite the double glazing keeping the noise down outside, noise inside was a problem. I was woken at 11.30pm by children running down the corridor and a family going to their room. I was then woken at 5.30am by the person in the room above running a bath - it was noisy.

Perhaps the most worrying feature was my colleague finding a mouse in her room the morning we left. She was extremely polite about it, so they refunded her a £5 phone call. I perhaps would have demanded a little more. It really put us both off our breakfast, and really wasn't a good start to her day!

I paid the balance on leaving and was given an invoice. 2 days later an invoice with an additional £25 listed turned up on my doorstep. No explanation, no accompanying letter. I am concerned that additional expenditure has been authorised on my account without my agreement. I have contacted the hotel and was put through to the payments section, who have not replied to my messages. I plan to write a letter of complaint, as if this additional expense, which i do not know what it is for, appears on my credit card statement, i will be very angry.

In summary;

I would not stay here again.
This looks like a luxurious hotel, but looks can be deceiving.
I would give it a 3* rather than 4*
Many of the staff were friendly and helpful, which should be noted.
Several things particularly concerned me, in particular the mouse and an invoice which has no explanation.
Only stay here if you want nice food and a nearby tube station!
