Advantages: Location Disadvantages: More of a business Hotel than for lesuire
I decided to treat my mum and me to a short break to Abu Dhabi last year and choose the MillenniumHotel to stay in. We managed to find a taxi easily enough at Abu Dhabi airport and after a short drive (30mins) we arrived at the hotel. On first impressions I was a little disappointed. I had all these grand images in my head, but in reality the hotel seemed pretty standard.
The room itself was quite basic (considering the price we paid), but it was clean and the beds were very comfortable.
The hotel does have a nice swimming pool (although a little on the small side) and area for catching some sun.
Getting around Abu Dhabi was fairly easy, taxi's are always available and very cheap.
One trip I would recommend is the desert safari and evening barbecue. Driving up and down the sand dunes in the deserts was thrilling, I was ...
Advantages: Somewhere very diiferent, Maori culture, boiling mud and geysers Disadvantages: the smell was a little off putting, Maori evening was awful
ROTORUA:
Rotorua is on the North island of New Zealand almost in the middle about three hours drive from Auckland and six from Wellington.
We stayed at the Sudima Hotel right beside Lake Rotorua and as we got off the bus the interesting sulphur smell of Rotorua greeted us. It is quite a strong rotten egg sort of smell that gets in to everywhere. I didn?t find it too revolting but others in our group found it very over powering and complained constantly that it even pervaded the air-conditioning in the rooms.
The town is quite small enough to walk around the main sights, the lovely steaming lake and the park alongside it and all the way to Ohinemutu. On our first evening we went to the Tamika Maori evening ( see separate review on this one)

Advantages: The view, and erm everything else, but the view mainly! Disadvantages: Too many mirrorerd walls - it's a hazard!
Who wouldn?t enjoy a few days wandering around New York, taking in the sights and sounds of one of the most famous places on earth? Central Park, the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings?Broadway, Times Square and the hustle and bustle of lower Manhattan?
I have been to New York many times on business over the years but had never really spent more than a few hours of free time getting to know the place so when my husband suggested we have a long weekend there recently I bit his arm off!
Mind you, those business trips had served me well because I knew quite a few of the central hotels and also knew how poor value they can be: how basic and uninteresting and how noisy many of them can be as the sirens wail past them through the night. So I knew that the best thing we could do was book into the Millennium UN Plaza for a real treat ...
