Having visited Milton Keynes on a number of occasions, I'd like to put forward my thoughts on the place. Firstly the roads, I think that the way that the road system has been planned (in a big grid) is very USA-like with national speed limits (i.e. not 30 or 40 like most towns) applying on the main roads. This seems to work well, with the residential areas sited off these main roads with green spaces (and MK has quite a number of green spaces - which I like) in between. The roads seem to have numbers rather than names as in most towns, but the gridlayout and signposting does make it fairly easy to map read and count junctions. The architecture is a bit grey and concrete and the town seems to be lacking in landmarks, (the snowdome is a stunning exception to this,) however I am told that MK has concrete cows which I still haven't seen!

Penelope,
Fully agreed about the nice green areas around the road system!
If you want to see the Concrete Cows, you have to get onto the H3 Monks Way and head towards the roundabout for the A5. Just prior to the railway bridge between Bancroft and Bradwell Village (assuming you are heading west), look across to your right and the cows are in the field!
