The capital of Minas, Belo Horizonte is a modern city which makes a good starting point to explore the State. Minas Gerais is also a State with many industries, which is doing well in the context of Brazilian Economy

Espirito Santo is the name of a State north of Rio. The capital, Victoria, is one of the ugliest memories I have of Brazil. Enough said. Marataizes, a bit further up on the coast, is a cheap beach resort for Mineiros, the inhabitants of MinasGerais. I went there at the beginning of my visit to Brazil, when I did not have an idea of other beaches in Brazil. With hindsight, the beach is not really worth the effort of going there. However, Marataizes makes an interesting visit for those who have time and interest in the life of ?real Brazilians?. I did not meet any foreigners, and, even amongst the Brazilian there, I did not strike acquantaince with anyone, fairly unusual for Brazilian standards. It is really a cheap place for middle class families. ...
