As we scoured through the Thomson travel brochure looking for a holiday destination we saw a nice looking hotel which was situated in Rethymno on the Greek island of Crete. The recently refurbished Minoshotel is a four star hotel and is situated 150m from the beach. The pictures of the hotel looked lovely so we booked two rooms for 10 days in August.

The Minoshotel is about an hours drive from the airport in Heraklion. The coach dropped us at a busy roundabout where we were pointed in the direction of the hotel entrance. The entrance to the hotel is up a reasonably steep slope and as there was not enough room to get the coach up there we had to carry our luggage up to the hotel. Thomson had mentioned the slope in ...

Advantages: Location, toiletries Disadvantages: Expensive if not booked through third party website
I've stayed at The Strand Palace a number of times. I generally pay around Ł85 per night for a double room although I book through a third party as booking directly through the hotel seems to cost in excess of Ł100 per night.
I've no idea why it's listed as 2 star on here given that its 3 star everywhere else. The rooms are a decent size and always clean. The bathroom is stocked with Pascal Morabito toiletries which I appreciate. There's a tv with sky channels, pay wi-fi, hairdryer etc. The staff are very polite and willing to help.
With regard to location, the hotel is located on the Strand which is the prime hotspot for theatre-goers. It's very close to Covent Garden and there are a number of London guides provided in the room for those who are new to the city.
I have not tried the food at the hotel so I am unable to comment ...
Advantages: Excellent facilities, good food Disadvantages: Isolated location
needed it or give directions or advice. They also had stocks of used books a board games which was quite handy for out by the pool.
The only gripe we had really was the location.....it's not near anywhere else in walking distance. If you want to go to the small town of Elounda or the larger AgiosNikolaos then you had to get a taxi which would cost you around 5 euros each way. We weren't at all impressed with AgiosNikolaos....it was really busy, full of shops and bars and awful restaurants. Elounda was a little bit nicer and we ended up having to go to the local doctors there as our son got an ear infection. The service was free although we did have to wait over an hour to be seen but excellent otherwise.
One other thing that gets our thumbs up was the fantastic Kids Club. It was hotel run and the staff were absolutely brilliant ...
