Advantages: Gripping, topical, intriguing, clever Disadvantages: 4 book series
What better place to start than at the beginning. I was first introduced to the works of the author Tad Williams, through the wonderful Memory, Sorrow and Thorn fantasy trilogy. I was a little sceptical when he turned his hand at writing the Otherland series, as I would class it more as Science fiction. From experience of reading other authors who have attempted the same, I have felt the transition from one genre to another was not made successfully and was somewhat painful to read. In this instance, I am pleased to think there are no such problems here.
The Otherland books are made up of four titles;
City of Golden Shadow, River of Blue Fire, Mountain of Black Glass and Sea of Silver Light.
I really do not want to give too much away as I find that is one the pleasures of reading, so I will try my hardest to summarise the first ...

All the books and guides say that the Goldenes Dachl is a must when visiting Innsbruck. And while I agree to some extent, you have to remember not to get too disappointed by the fact that for an attraction it is very small.
HISTORY:
The house where the roof is situated was built in around 1420 by Archduke Fredrick IV. By the end of the 15th century the house was in the hands of the Emperor Maximilian I. In 1500 he ordered that the balcony, complete with golden roof, be constructed in honour of his second marriage to Bianca Maria Sforza of Milan. It was built by the court architect Niclas Turing From the balcony he could look out over the square below and watch dancing and tournaments. The 'gold' roof is actually 2657 copper tiles which have been guilded.

Situated on the north east coast of Scotland is the city of Aberdeen, it has a population of just under 250.000 inhabitants & is Scotland's third largest city.
It's about 120 miles north of Edinburgh, 150 miles north east of Glasgow & around 100 miles south west of Inverness. It is sandwiched in between two rivers, in the north of the city by the River Don & in the south by the River Dee & has the Cairngorm National Park about 45 miles west of the city.
Its main industry is oil, making it now the oil capital of Europe which has turned the city into a more cosmopolitan place than ever before.
For tourism in loses out to the larger city of Edinburgh & misses out when people travel further north to the Highlands, but the city & its beautiful surroundings have much to offer tourists regardless of age.
