Minsky's is one of the few Cardiff Clubs that's encourages the party vibe, the DJ works on getting the audience dancing and singing along to cheesy songs such as YMCA and Abba and such like in between the extraordinary Drag Queen shows that Minky's has become famous for.
The clientele always seems to be a very mixed bunch ranging from Office parties, Hen/Stag nights to a few freinds just out for a night on the town and the dress code is quite relaxed although I did once get questioned for wearing Dr Martins (but the DJ being a friend of mine had a quiet word with the doormen who then let me in with no questions).
The main attraction of Minsky's is the Drag Shows with the regular appearance of Marcia (my favourite) and Keri Dupree. The content of these shows can be quite risque at least so this club is not for the faint-hearted, and more often than not when I leave there I have such an aching face from all the laughing.
The drinks are reasonably priced as is the entrance fee and this would contribute to why the place gets so packed on weekend nights. This is the only disadvantage that I would say about Minsky's as there is not a lot of seating areas so everyone stands around the stage which is in between the 2 bars and it can get pretty crowded.
All in all I would recommend Minky's to every one whatever your age or musical preference as it is a great place with an excllent relaxed party atmosphere
