Ok so for my review of the Mitre Hotel In Manchester.
Just got back from my trip in wet and windy Manchester trip was good hotel stay was less that good.

But before I tell you all the bad points I'll tell you about the hotel.

Location:

Cathedral Gates
Manchester, M31 SW
United Kingdom

Based right next to the Manchester Cathedral in the centre of Manchester.
10 meters walk from Harvey Nichols and Selfridges.
800 meters from Piccadilly train station
300 meters from Victoria train station.
And 8 miles from Manchester Airport.

Building:

Lovely old sandstone style building very quaint.
Two doors into hotel to reach the pub downstairs where the reception is now located.
Then several narrow stairways to reach your rooms.

The Room:

Two single beds with fresh white linen and firm beds fairly comfy.
Dirty net curtains in dire need of a wash.
Carpet was faded and needed a good clean.
Toilet was very plain and shower was lacking in power with a horrible plastic curtain with mould.
Apart from that fairly clean.
Kettle with tea and coffee sugar and milk nice clean cups and spoons.
Small TV with no remote and only seemed to get 2 channels if you pressed the buttons on the set.
The door had a huge gap at the bottom where you could see people in the hall walking past I could fit my hand under this.
A few tacky abstract prints on the magnolia painted walls.
Serious lack of plug sockets.
NO hairdryer.
NO Iron or Ironing board.

Comments on room:

The kettle situated on the same table as the TV had a very short cable so you had to place the kettle on the floor to actually plug it in to make your tea.

The bedding was ripped though clean.

Dust bunnies under the beds and cupboard. (Dust bunnies for those who don't know are huge balls of dust and fluff)

The walls were paper thin to my horror when the couple next door started their romp at 12 that night don't want to go into detail but put my pillow over my head.

Comments on hotel:

The stairs were a killer they were very narrow and noisy. I was glad I did not have a huge suitcase because if I had met someone on them I would have had to backup as no way two people would get on them at one time.

Magical mystery tour to find your room with no help at all from the staff. Very easy to get lost in the winding very narrow halls and stairs trying to find your room.

Cost:

I paid £43.50 through Expedia for this room it had 3 single beds in it and I requested a single room.
Have seen rooms advertised for £45 per night per person.
Did not include breakfast.

Staff:

Now I will comment on my first stay then the most recent.

1) Staff on my first stay were very polite and very helpful they guided me through the hotel to find my room and wished me a pleasant stay. Quick check in and quick checkout with a we hope you come again.
2) Staff on my second stay…. Well walked in the door as I had done on my previous stay to find the second entrance door was locked with no sign stating where to go, I looked into the bar area which is on the right to see two members of staff sitting at the end of the bar. So I asked them how to get to the check in upstairs they said walk through here and upstairs. So off I went upstairs to find the check in area locked. So came back down the 3 flights of rickets stairs to speak to the staff again. To find out check in was at the bar.
The stone faced girl of around 20-22 years of age handed me a card and said "full tha in"then had a wee chat with her fellow member of staff then once I had finished handed over a key saying " Yur on the secont flair " .

Off I headed upstairs to put my bag in my room, I came back down to head over to Selfridges and the same two staff were sitting at the end of the bar went to walk out the door I came in and it had been locked still with no sign saying so.
I said to one of the girls how do I get out? They replied "our at the ether door" < scotish accent>and pointed to the right.
So off I went trying to bite my tongue and not let loose with my best Scottish.

After a hard shift at Selfridges I came back to the hotel to find the door I came out closed and had to walk back to the other door. Now by this time the bar was full of worky type guys having a good old time. I did not want to walk through the bar. But it seemed I had no choice as the main door upstairs was locked.

Now I don't want to sound like a party pooper but it was a Tuesday night and I was travelling alone and did not want to walk through a bar full of drunk men.

But soldiered on through to a few cheeky and colourful comments and I bolted upstairs to my room locking it as soon as I got in.

When in the room I settled into my bed and watched the huge selection on the TV now on the Expedia site is says this hotel has Cable TV I never found it!

About after 20 mins got bored and decided to sleep that was until a huge person bounced off my door trying to get along the narrow hallways.

Lets just say it was a very noisy night!

Now check out was to be at 11 so got up at 9 and was having my tea and the door was chapped at 9.30 opened it to see a woman who said ooH ur still here she made a humphing noise and said all jus go dae another room then.

So got my gear together and off I trotted down stairs to checkout to the same lovely girl from the check in. She took my key and I said I have paid in full is there anything else? She said no that's you. And walked away from me.

No how was your stay ? Thanks for staying with us. Nuthin!

Finale:

Ok so how could such a nice place turn so bad? I do remember on my first stay the stairs and the noise but the staff and service made up for the bad points. I would never have stayed there again If I had known how awful it had turned out.

If you want a place to go for a stag night where you can bounce off the walls and no one will complain and they won't mind too much about the noise you make then this is a cheap hotel and has rooms with 2 and 3 single beds in it.
But if you want a relaxing night's sleep with helpful staff FORGET IT!!

Thanks for reading my rants.
Maggie
