Forget your conceptions of an Indian restaurant with flock wallpaper, grubby surroundings and appalling minature vases with a single carnation. This is clearly curry for the new millenium. The Modern India used to be Balbir's, now defunct. A huge renovation (a la the rest of Glasgow) has given rise to one of the most popular curry-shops in the City Centre. The entrance is distinct but not ... ...the fun starts. The Modern India has one advantage over other City Centre eateries. All-you-can-eat buffets are becoming more popular, but this one has a difference. If diners are a multiple of two, you ‘qualify’ for the two-eat-for-the-price of one deal – costing a paltry 6GBP! Advantages: Six pounds for two Indian meals. Excellent quality of food availabe. Disadvantages: Diversity of food isn't great (two chicken curries). Ocassionally play bad music.
...to change all that however. Modern India, only a short walk from the Odeon cinema heading towards Hope Street, is offering a lunchtime meal at astoundingly good value. Six pounds gets you into the buffet for two at lunchtime. This is great news for people like myself who don't have the financial means to pay for their curry habit.
The food available is of a high quality. Ususally two curries, nothing too exotic, something like a korma and a tikka ... ...this may sound like something of a limited choice, it is absolutely superb in quality and will probably be to everyone's taste.
Drinks are extra, except water, which is free.
If you're anywhere near the Hope Street/Nile Street area I strongly advise you check this place out. It's unbelievable value! It's available moday to saturday, 12:00 until 15:00. ...
