Advantages: Removal will tell you what you're up against. If you need treatment, the earlier you get started, the better. If not, at least you won't have to worry about it anymore. Disadvantages: I can't imagine there are any disadvantages to having a mole removed.
Most of us have heard about melanoma and the signs to look for so when, last autumn, a mole started to change colour and shape, I became somewhat concerned.
I?d had this particular mole for at least 20 years without it ever changing but even though I was concerned, I wasn?t worried enough to go to a doctor straight away. You?ll probably laugh at me for being silly but the mole was buried amongst my pubes and I found it kind of embarrassing to show my GP. Considering everything I?d been through that year, there was no reason for me to ever again feel embarrassed in front of medical staff so I do wonder whether I was maybe making an excuse because I didn?t want to have to go though anymore. I?d had enough for one year, thank you very much.
Anyway, the mole seemed to settle down and, for a while, I didn?t give it too much thought ...

I was quite intrigued when I saw this category, and with summer supposedly on our doorsteps and the ever-present threat of the sun it drew me back to my own experiences with mole removal over the last few years. Both with very different outcomes.
