Mombasa is a rather dirty city on the coast of Kenya. As soon as you get out into the surrounding areas though it changes dramatically. There are the most fantastic sandy beaches with clear blue warm waters. The diving is second to none with something for every one, from small wrecks, to coral walls. The marine life is truly abundant, with sharks, moray eels and turtles in hugh quantitys. On the north coast outside mombasa there is a highly recomendable diving school called Barracuda, well worth a try. Other than diving there is also plenty to do and see. There is a lot of history in the Mombasa area, and also world famous safari's. The safari to tsavo east and west is the best that I went on. If you like good food, then you must also eat at the Tamarind resturaunt as it is world class, especially the Lobster. If you like the sea, then try the Tamarind Dow. Mombasa is perfect for singles, couples or familys, although as a word of warning, if you are traveling alone there is an extremely high incidence of AIDs so please be aware.
