Hi there everybody!! I recently travelled to Kenya and i just thought i'd share some of my experiences with you!

I travelled to Mombassa Kenya in July of this year and i have to say i think it was the best holiday i have been on! I have totally fallen in love with Africa and the African people! I am even thinking about saving up so i can travel there sometime in the future with my friends!

I stayed in a hotel called The Voyager Beach Resort, the hotel itself is situated on the beach and is approx. 10 mins from Mombassa Town. The views are breathtaking across the ocean and if you have a sea view room then this is what you are to wake up every morning for the next 2 weeks!! The food was fantastic and all the staff were very obliging! I am still in contact with many of them even now! As a 17 yr old i get very bored very easily, but the hotel offered so many different activities, i always found myself being roped into some kind of sport! :o) However the only problem with being directly on the beach was that it wasn'y always as easy to get directly to the sea lol! There are always local people trying to sell you their goods, and althoough they are amazingly friendly they are also amazingly persuasive and usually get their own way especially if you take an interest in their goods.

If you are looking to bring home lots of souveniers from your holiday i do suggest that you take a box of biro pens with you! lol no im not kidding! many of the sellers will first ask you if you have any pens and would like to swap something (like a sounvenier) for them. My dad got rid of many socks and items of clothing doing this....which mum was not best pleased about! lol.

The weather is fantastic and although i went during one of the coldest months of the year, it was still blistering hot (36C) and i therefore recommend that you start off by using a high factor sun cream and gradually work your way down as you progress through your holiday. Even i had to do this and i have olive skin and do not burn easily.

Another thing i would recommend that you take with you is mossy repelent. I was one of the few annoying people that managed not to get bitten once while i was on holiday, but unfortunately many of my friends were bitten quite badly several times! The best time to wear mossy spray is in the evening becuase this is the peak time that they are on the prowl for fresh blood.....nice.

Kenya offers many attractive activities, here are some of the trips that i participated in:

1) Safari - We only went on a one day safari, and to be honest this was more than enough for me!We saw practically all the animals but there were large gaps of time where we saw nothing at all! By the end of the day i was shattered! However many of my friends that also went on safari's (many of them for longer periods of time) did thoroughly enjoy them.

2) The dolphin dahl - This was an amazing trip that took approx 2 hours to get to the destination from Mombassa and allowed yout to spend the day on a boat in the search for dolphins! In fact it only took a about 45 mins for us to find a whole school of dolphins. After this we had lunch on the boat with everybody and then we all went snorkelling over the coral reef!! Now i dont particularly like fish, but this experience was just breathtaking, not like the ugly fish you get in your local supermarket but gorgeous electric coloured fish swimming only a few inches below you. Overall this is one trip you dont want to miss.

3) The Mombassa town trip - not one for the faint hearted! lol the first few places you visit are the old port, fort jesus, a muslim temple, a woodcarving centre (where you get to see all the local people hand crafting sculptures...and then have an oppotunity to buy some of their work!) then you take a visit to the market place! Lets just say it was interesting lol! You are told to stay within your group and consult the guide before buying anything! Also people tend to follow you and try to sell you their goods. However it gives a unique insight into the African culture and i would still recommended it.

One last thing i would tell you about is that if you suffer from travel sickness.....take LOTS of sickness pills with you as the roads aren't exactly tarmaced!

Well thank you for your time! I hope this information is useful to you in some way :o)
