I travel to Alicante frequently and have used most of the UK and Spanish airlines that fly this route. Monarch usually are the most comfortable efficient and friendly. I think that they have an advantage in that they fly scheduled daily to Alicante and other Spanish destinations, as well as providing extensive charter flights to the same destinations. They therefore have a better infrastructure, ground staff, airport relations.
I suffer less delays with Monarch than any other airline. The planes are modern and quiet. The food is better than the rest. The staff are usually attentive. And that is just on the charter services.
The scheduled services are even better, with great meals, real cutlery, service that would not be amiss in a decent restaurant, a couple of free drinks, entertainment,lots of leg room, and new planes. The prices on the scheduled services are very reasonable, and you get your seat assigned on purchase. They run a frequent flyer scheme.
All in all, I have been impressed with Monarch. With most other airlines I dread the trip, with Monarch it is more than bearable
