Having recently returned from a Nile Cruise which was booked through Longwood Holidays (more in another review) Our flights where with Monarch airlines on a A300 aircraft which was very old and you knew it when you visited the rear of the plane (our seats where on the last row) and the smell from the toilets was slightly over powering which is a problem with these older planes. The seat pitch was as expected from a charter airline and was very cramped especially when the person in front reclines their seat leaving no rooms for your knees. We left Manchester delayed due to the fact that the caterers had loaded the galley incorrectly , sitting on the last row we could hear the crew dealing with the problem, so knew this wasn't a cover up.The flight also had to visit London Gatwick to pick up more passengers. This was ther worst part of the flight. The crew had to change over here but this was made very difficult as passengers needed to use the toilet facilities as we wer'nt allowed during the short sector. This meant that the crew couldn't move around the cabin which lead to a lengthy wait on the ground. During the flight the service from the crew was great and one of the best from a charter airline when so many others are cutting back Monarch have kept a high standard of service and food on board. Staff were friendly and always happy to help with a smile. This was duplicated on the return journey. The big problem seemed to be the toilet situation on board. The plane had a premium class at the front of about eight rows. Obviously this meant that it was out of bounds for the rest of us in economy. This is fine and happens in the skies every where but all the toilets for economy were at the back and during majority of the outbound flight the aisles where bloked with queuing passengers on this large plane which hindered the crew trying to carry out their service. On the up side appreciated the complementary water in you seat pocket when you boarded.
