simplicity often trumps ritzy ostentation. Attentive service matters, but nothing is nastier than the kind of smarmy obsequiousness that always seems to mask a sneer. And so on. Maybe it's simply down to that indefinable essence known as character or personality.
These inconsequential musings are prompted by my trying to pinpoint what it was about the CasaSan Blas at Cusco that I liked so much. The hotel is certainly not without its limitations and even its failings, but it's a nevertheless a charming and delightful place to stay. Let's try to summarise what it has to offer.

I have stayed in this hotel/resort twice in the last six months so feel I know it quite well. The first time being last October when we went for a two week stay, the second being last month for just a week. The hotel is a 3 star all inclusive
Both times were booked through Thompson, but there were many tour operators represented there.
The hotel is split into two halves, the superior rooms being located on the beach side and the other rooms being situated across the road. The beach side is a single building spanning 3 floors, with many rooms facing the beach. We stayed on the other side which is comprised of around 6 buildings spanning 2 or 3 floors all situated around the pool/bar area, quite like a small village. One special day last year, I woke up unusually early - it was even still dark outside. I just couldn?t wait to get downstairs and go into the living room, but I couldn?t - not just yet anyway. It?s something we always do in my family, we must all go downstairs at the same time, together. Not every morning! Just on this particular special day, so I called my mum and dad - my two younger sisters were already up, practically buzzing with excitement at the top of the stairs - and together we all walked, or rather sprinted into the living room.
