We (my husband and I) visited Chamonix whist staying in Geneva.
I am not a skier, though had read about the various things to do in Chnamonix and seen pictures of the spectacular views of mount Blanc and thought that it was definately worth a visit.
We visited on a beautifully sunny day, with out a cloud in sight, the views of mount blanc were fantastic and their was a lot of skiers making the most of the opportunity to ski in such perfect conditions.
We felt really lucky to be in such a picturesque place on such a fantastic day.
We bought tickets for the cable car which takes you up to the middle point of the mountain,, going up was such and adventure, as there was no cloud and the views were absolutely breathtaking.
At the highest point, we were both a litte cold, but had the sun beating down on us, we made the most of the opportunity and took lots of photograhs before it was time to go into the cafe and warm up a little!
The hot chocolate and chocolate cake were just the right thing to fill me up and keep my energy up -it's quite a strange feeling to be so high up, and to stop me from getting dizzy I needed a bite to eat.
Then, it was time for our descent, this was the best part of the day, as half way down , we were able to get out of the cable car and watch people sun bathing in the snow! As we were no longer at the highest point of the mountain, we were warm as we stepped out on the snow, we then decided to make the most of a great opportunity and had a snow ball fight!
A snowball fight in the sunshine half way down mount blanc was quite an experience, I must say, and we had alot of laughs. When we were worn out it was nice to just be able to sit in the snow and gaze in awe at the beautiful scenery all around us.
Heading to the bottom of the mountain, we became hotter still and decided that we should have a bite to eat and a refreshing drink!
Walking throught the quaint little streets of Chamonix we came accross a pony and cart, cobbled streets and many shops and cafes -the views of the mountain were spectacular and every five minutes I could be caught turning back to take a different view of mount Blanc -every time you looked at the mountain from a different angle, the photographs just seemed to get better and better!
We sat at a small cafe' outside, so that we still could enjoy the sun and sip our drinks whilst still appreciating the beauty of the mountain.
After a bite to eat, it was time to visit the steam train which took us down to the glacier and ice valley, I was very excited about seeing the glacier on such a beautiful day.
The train ride down was lovely, the views of the mountain from the train were fantastic and this was a journey that seemed very fitting with the whole atmosphere of Chamonix.
We walked along the path which led to the glacier ice valley -the ice sparked in the sunshine and dripped occasionally as it melted . Fantastic photo opportunities.
Entering the enclosed glacier was very strange -the walls appeared a misty blue as the ice continued to glisten from the incoming sunshine.
The walls felt smooth, and in the centre of the "room" we were treated to a clock face! The way the ice was sculpted to allow us to enter the glacier was a truly unique experience and one which I would recommend to anybody.
The whole day had filled our bodies with fresh mountain air and our senses with the wonders of nature - a fantastic place to visit if you get the opportunity with something for every one.

Advantages: picturesque scenery, lots to do, great for activities and especially in winter its buzzing Disadvantages: the weather - it can be cold and rainy even in summer, a little quiet if you're not mad on activities
