Advantages: Brill for watching many species of humming birds&other birds.Nice&rural, lots of trails. Disadvantages: You are very likely to get very wet. Not much to see except Hummingbirds
...On our recent trip to Ecuador, South America we had a 2 day 1 night stay at the Bellavista CloudForest Reserve is less than 2 hours away from Quito but still deep in the forest. Our reason for visiting Bellavista was to see the many species of hummingbirds at the feeders. There are also many trails to walk.
We arrived around midday after travelling from Quito. It was raining quite hard but we didn’t notice this when we saw all the hummingbirds at the syrup filled feeders around the main area of the lodge. There were also vivid blue Jays. We went to “The Dome” which is a wooden building with 360 degree views from which you can see the rugged peaks of Pichincha and Catacachi in the distance. ...ElSalvador was not the first place that sprung to mind when i was deciding on my holiday for this year. Indeed, were it not for the fact that my brother is marrying a girl from there, i doubt that i would ever have visited the area
Thank God i did though! The place is superb. San Salvador, the capital, is set in the hills. The people of this city are very, very poor, but they are also very welcoming and friendly
The heat was impossible. i dont know if it is normally that hot but i think thaqt i must have sweated out at least three tonnes of liquid that i was there
Everywhere i went were warnings that tourists should be careful at all times. Apparently crime is a major problem with shootings, muggings and theft a common problem throughout the year...

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The Sun was belting down and there was not a single Cloud in the Sky, the temperature gauge on the Wall outside the Hotel where we was staying read 46 Degrees Centigrade and it was hung in the shade, the Weather was certainly a far cry from what we had left behind in England, despite the fact that England was about to enter into a mini heat wave of its own, but on a much less severe scale.
We quickly checked into our Hotel, washed and changed and then headed out onto the Beach directly in front of our Hotel. The first thing that I recall was that the Sand on the Beach was so fine and quite unlike anything...
