Yes i'm more than thankful to have my feet on the ground and to have finally reached my destination but i find the whole process of going through the airport a nightmare. You'd think i would have got use to it the amount of times i done it but last years visit was the worse.

My father lives in Jamaica so i go out to visit him every other year or two.

Once you get off the plane the first thing that hits you is the heat which is only expected as your coming from a cold country to a hot one. You have to walk what seems like miles to get to immagriation. Once we finally got there it was chaos. People everywhere there were no signs to show where you had to queue up. The queue was like a snake winding round and round everybody packed into one small room. To top it all there was no air conditioning. No seats so you had to stand up.
It was not organised at all. We must have been standing for at least 45 minutes in a queue. The children who were all under 4 we're getting tired and very hot they were sweating and crying because they were thristy but there was no water available. And we couldn't move out of the queue even if we tried because of the sea of bodies.
Eventually a staff member took pity on us i think he could see that the children were about to pass out with the heat that he let us go through before everyone else in front.
How thankful we're we. All that we had left to do now was collect our luggage and go through customs which was a breeze compared to what we had just been through but never the less it took us nearly 2 hours to finally get out of the airport.
Apart from the Airport staff that finally rescued us i found that the staff were not very welcoming or friendly perhaps they just took a disliking to me i don't know. But not one of them smiled or welcomed me to their country.
The airport its self is very simple and a bit bare and could be a bit more welcoming. Jamaica is such a beautiful county it's a shame that your first impressions when you touch down aren't more pleasent.
It could do with a few more faciilties like decent air conditioning, More seating and access to drinking water.
I only hope my next visit is more enjoyable but i doubt it.
Advantages: Very clean, very friendly staff Disadvantages: Having to go home!
When we arrived at the airport in Jamaica from Manchester, we were surprised by how big it was. All the staff speak very good English. Apart from a new rep of our company, JMC, directing us to the wrong bus, we didn't have any problems with the airport. We had been told to watch out for the "Porters" are the airport, who would assume that you wanted a hand taking your luggage to your bus, put it on their trolley and expect you to pay afterwards. ... ...they are fine about it and wish you a happy holiday!
As we'd missed our bus to our hotel due to JMC's mistake, we were hanging around outside the airport for around half an hour before another one came to collect us. Lots of the airport staff came over to talk to us and were very friendly - asking us where we were from, how long we were there for, where we were staying, etc.
The return journey was just as good (although obviously we didn't want ...

...2004, flying from Manchester to Montego Bay via MyTravel airlines. Although it was my first time travelling to the country, my dad who flew with me has been several times before however he usually flies directly to Kingston. After a 9 hour flight, I was pleasantly supprised to arrive at such a clean and tidy airport. It appeared that clean and tidy...that it actually seemed rather empty, but at least it looked nice. Despite the hot mid-august temperatures, ... ...air conditioning consisted of a few low power fans placed in the corner of arrivals! This definately wasn't one of the best things about the airport!
The next downfall came when we tried to get through check in. This was amazingly slow! It brought a new dimension to the term Jamaican teabreak. We stood in queue for 20 mins and didn't move, depite there being several people at the desks. They just seemed to sit there. On a positive note, once they ...

I could not believe how big this airport is and how clean it is. As soon as i meet the locals at the airport i remember thinking how polite and nice the people there were. There are signs clearly stating directions and the staff are helpfull. there were these ladies dancing and singing to everyone when we walked through the door into the airpot who were all dressed up in big dresses and all in bright colours which was nice. The food is ok and there ...

Well after a ten hour flight we were glad to land. We where then directed to the couples lounge at MontegoBayairport. We were offered a drink and where able to relax in the comfy sofas whilst waiting for the other guests. We were then shown to the couples resort bus, which was smaller and looked more comfortable than the others.
The ride took about an 1 ½ hours to the resort. I must say on approaching the hotel I was surprised at how grubby the front entrance looked. However when we arrived to reception, we were given a glass of bubbly and escorted to our room. Our room was nice, as although it was away from the sea, it was very peaceful and was close to the beauty rooms. The beauty room was in the middle of the blocks, with a small peaceful garden and pond area. We did request a beach room as it was a wedding/honeymoon however in ...

I flew with Air Jamaica(JM) to Montegobayairport (sangster) last year and i wasn't very impressed with the aircraft itself or the way they took on so much luggage!
To start off with, the check in staff seemed to allow all the passengers to check in over their allowance. Even though they did charge them it seemed the majority of passengers were taking at leat two even three bags more than most normally would and i'm certain the total the aircraft should be safely carrying was well exceeded. I seemed to feel this even more on take off as it just seemed so HEAVY and the aircraft seemed to take forever to actually lift from the airstrip - it made me feel a bit uneasy to say the least and i'm never scared on aircrafts at all.
Check in and Boarding:
Air Jamaica fly from Heathrow and check was actually relatively smooth with very little ...

Trip details:

We stayed at Country Country in Negril for 2 weeks for our honeymoon, from 8th August - 22nd. We booked through Thomsons for a total price of £1,895 on B&B basis. We had to fly from Gatwick Airport (which for us was a bit of a nightmare as we had to fly down from Durham Tees the night before...but never mind about that).
We had been dreaming about the sandy beach, the relaxed atmosphere and the lovely sun for months, checking out online reviews at www.tripadvisor.com and the like. It all seemed great, except as I read more and more reviews we heard more and more about the 'Beach Vendors' who try to sell you anything you could possibly think off - really.
