Montego Bay Airport

Advantages: Clean, Tidy
Disadvantages: Staff not very friendly

...thing that hits you is the heat which is only expected as your coming from a cold country to a hot one. You have to walk what seems like miles to get to immagriation. Once we finally got there it was chaos. People everywhere there were no signs to show where you had to queue up. When we arrived at the airport in Jamaica from Manchester, we were surprised by how big it was. All the staff speak very good English. Apart from a new rep of our company, JMC, directing us to the wrong bus, we didn't have any problems with the airport. We had been told to watch out for the "Porters" are the airport, who would assume that you wanted a hand taking your luggage to your bus, put it on their trolley and expect you to pay afterwards. ...

As we'd missed our bus to our hotel due to JMC's mistake, we were hanging around outside the airport for around half an hour before another one came to collect us. ...2004, flying from Manchester to Montego Bay via MyTravel airlines. Although it was my first time travelling to the country, my dad who flew with me has been several times before however he usually flies directly to Kingston. After a 9 hour flight, I was pleasantly supprised to arrive at such a clean and tidy airport. It appeared that clean and tidy...that it actually seemed rather empty, but at least it looked nice. ...air conditioning consisted of a few low power fans placed in the corner of arrivals! This definately wasn't one of the best things about the airport! I could not believe how big this airport is and how clean it is. As soon as i meet the locals at the airport i remember thinking how polite and nice the people there were. There are signs clearly stating directions and the staff are helpfull. there were these ladies dancing and singing to everyone when we walked through the door into the airpot who were all dressed up in big dresses and all in bright colours which was nice. ...Trip details: ------------------- We stayed at Country Country in Negril for 2 weeks for our honeymoon, from 8th August - 22nd. We booked through Thomsons for a total price of £1,895 on B&B basis. We had to fly from Gatwick Airport (which for us was a bit of a nightmare as we had to fly down from Durham Tees the night before...but never mind about that). We had been dreaming about the sandy beach, the relaxed atmosphere and the lovely sun for months, checking out online reviews at www.tripadvisor.com and the like. I would say offer them no more than 66% of what they ask for and if you find one who is flexible and trustworthy take his number and get him to drive for you throughout your trip on the basis of economies of scale. They will readily agree to this because it is (a) very competitive between the drivers in terms of getting a fare and (b) they always profit because no matter how good a negotiator you are it is simply a case of degrees of being scammed; you will always end up paying over the odds for any journey. Advantages: Weather, beach and the food!
Disadvantages: Airport, roads and COST!

...in the Caribbean and it's Capitol is Kingston (South East of the island, fairly central). Montego Bay is located on the North of the island, and is also where the airport is situated. Righto, here's the nitty gritty: The airport has no air conditioning, so beware both arriving and departing! (believe me, with hundreds of other passengers squashed into the airport when we were leaving, it was NOT for the faint hearted!) On arrival, the airport staff take a very long time, to check your entry visas before letting you go on your merry way. Now, I KNOW the general ethos of Jamaica is 'No Problem' and the attitiude is very laid back, but after a 10 hour flight, sitting rigid in a space no larger than a cardboard BOX, I don't really appreciate laid backness!!!
