Although it was my first time travelling to the country, my dad who flew with me has been several times before however he usually flies directly to Kingston.
After a 9 hour flight, I was pleasantly supprised to arrive at such a clean and tidy airport. It appeared that clean and tidy...that it actually seemed rather empty, but at least it looked nice.
Despite the hot mid-august temperatures, the airports air conditioning wasn't up to much. Infact the air conditioning consisted of a few low power fans placed in the corner of arrivals! This definately wasn't one of the best things about the airport!
The next downfall came when we tried to get through check in. This was amazingly slow! It brought a new dimension to the term Jamaican teabreak. We stood in queue for 20 mins and didn't move, depite there being several people at the desks. They just seemed to sit there.
On a positive note, once they began to work, they did move the queue of people very fast and were extremely polite and helpful.
The return journey was a little better, although we personally found that the service was still very slow and there was a rediculous surcharge for overweight luggage!

Good start but a mention of the facilities at this airport would be good. What are the toilets like? Are there plenty of different catering outlets? Shopping opportunities? Check in desks? That sort of thing. Lexy
