My father lives in Jamaica so i go out to visit him every other year or two.
I love travelling and i enjoy being on a areoplane i have to admit the only thing i do dreed about the whole travelling experience is landing at Montego Bayairport after a 9 hour flight. Yes i'm more than thankful to have my feet on the ground and to have finally reached my destination but i find the whole process of going through the airport a nightmare. You'd think i would have got use to it the amount of times i done it but last years visit was the worse.
I flew out with my two small children , partner. my mum my brother, his girlfriend and little boy.
Once you get off the plane the first thing that hits you is the heat which is only expected as your coming from a cold country to a hot one. You have to walk what seems like miles to get to immagriation. Once we finally got there it was chaos. People everywhere there were no signs to show where you had to queue up. The queue was like a snake winding round and round everybody packed into one small room. To top it all there was no air conditioning. No seats so you had to stand up.
It was not organised at all. We must have been standing for at least 45 minutes in a queue. The children who were all under 4 we're getting tired and very hot they were sweating and crying because they were thristy but there was no water available. And we couldn't move out of the queue even if we tried because of the sea of bodies.
Eventually a staff member took pity on us i think he could see that the children were about to pass out with the heat that he let us go through before everyone else in front.
How thankful we're we. All that we had left to do now was collect our luggage and go through customs which was a breeze compared to what we had just been through but never the less it took us nearly 2 hours to finally get out of the airport.
Apart from the Airport staff that finally rescued us i found that the staff were not very welcoming or friendly perhaps they just took a disliking to me i don't know. But not one of them smiled or welcomed me to their country.
The airport its self is very simple and a bit bare and could be a bit more welcoming. Jamaica is such a beautiful county it's a shame that your first impressions when you touch down aren't more pleasent.
It could do with a few more faciilties like decent air conditioning, More seating and access to drinking water.
I only hope my next visit is more enjoyable but i doubt it.
