Uruguay or U-Ru-GUay

Advantages: Really nice museums to keep you engaged with the city
Disadvantages: The constant meat you are meant to eat

In Uruguay they have weather very similar to our weather just not as wet. In January when I went to visit the weather was extremely warm and was hitting on average around 33c each day and in the evenings there was a much cooler breeze and temperatures dropped to around 16c.

I went to Montevideo in Uruguay in late January 2008 and was there for ten days. I had visited this country for one reason and it was to see where my grandmother used to live and explore the surroundings she had to deal with when growing up.

I had to get a flight to Buenos Aires in Argentina and then have a flight from there to Montevideo and it was a flight which took 20 hours to complete but it was a nice journey on route ... more

Montevideo is the capital city of Uruguay and gives hospitality to more or less the 50% of the inhabitants of the whole Uruguay. Montevideo is a modern city that includes also the historic zone of the old city. All around the city there are many beaches with their white sands. The old city, called "CIUDAD VIEJA", is scattered with buildings dated 18th century and includes also the market called "MERCADO DEL PUERTO". "AVENIDA 18 DE JULIO" (18 July ...
...its parks and "Ramblas". Montevideo is an array of old (18th century) and new (very modern skyscrapers) without many interests for those people that are looking for history, art and architecture. A full visit will take only two days. As a counterbalance the beaches of Montevideo are very beautiful, clean and with an extension as far as the eye can see. The inhabitants (most of them are of Italian origin) are friendly and polite. The city is safe ...

Montevideo in Minnesota

Advantages: many
Disadvantages: none

When tourists speak about USA they always mention New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, Boston, Philadelphia and may be few other big cities. But in this large country there are hundreds of towns, villages and hamlets full of fascination and history; and I wish to take you around the country to discover its beauties that I have visited during the last 40 years. 200 kilometers west of Minneapolis and closed to the border between Minnesota and South Dakota where the Chippewa river feeds the Minnesota river I found Montevideo, a town of about seven thousand inhabitants. I have asked to some inhabitants if there is any link with Montevideo, the capital city of Uruguay. Yes, was the answer. The two cities are twinned and every year in Montevideo, Minnesota there is the celebration of the "FIESTA DAYS" (honestly I ...

A beautiful beach resort

Advantages: Lovely beaches, lots of big expensive looking buildings,
Disadvantages: Relatively expensive living, can get very crowded in summer

I spent about 2 weeks in PdE in the coldest time of year - as a result, some days were warm and nice but most were grey and cold. There were very few people around so I had a nice quiet time - so my girlfriend and I walked around the empty streets and beaches taking in all the nice sights. Since I don't go out clubbing or tanning, I was satisfied with just spending time there. For anyone who likes beaches, girls and going out to clubs and stuff, this is definately somewhere to visit. Crime is apparently higher here than in Montevideo, pickpockets and all that, but I think if you are a bit careful you'd be fine. The sea is REALLY nice, as is the view of all those tall buildings. Dulce de Leche here is cheaper than in Montevideo, I noticed, which is good - but they have no Bimbo bread in Inglesa - so we had to settle for another milky ...

Review of Punta del Este

just a beauty

Advantages: thousands
Disadvantages: it is a litlle (?!!!?) faraway

Punta del Este is the holiday resort more exclusive of the whole South America. Businessmen from Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela as well United States of America select Punta del Este as location for their holidays house. Here come also singers, sport stars, actor and actress. The name of this resort says itself that the town is located on the point more eastern of Uruguay. To reach Punta del Este you should first of all fly to Montevideo, the capital city of Uruguay and the drive for about one hour along a very beautiful scenic road that pass through woods, follows the coast of the Atlantic ocean, climbs the surrounding hills. Despite the development of hotels and tourist structures in accordance with the USA style, Punta del Este keeps her fascination of a city of seamen established by European immigrants, most of them where from ...
